It looks the same the big motor 090 but it definitely rev’s like a smaller motor.
The one I had was sold as new in 1982 after sitting for years. It was the 128cc model and was kinda slow but would plow through anything. When it got away from me back in the mid 90’s it still ran like new, and with only a year or so of heavy use, it looked almost new. These were built to last a lifetime.

I have an 090. These videos do the saws no justice.

You need to see and hear those saws run in person to truly appreciate them.

You know how people can listen to motorbikes run and immediately pick out the Suzuki Hayabusa? That’s the same with an 090.

*Nowadays a real Stihl 090 137 CC in the same condition as this one on the vid goes for $2, 000+ This 090G with the smaller engine is pretty expensive as well.*

I really enjoy watching your videos, its great that you are willing to show and work on chainsaws of days gone by, I have my grandfathers 850 pro Mach muclucch that he used for professional logging. Again thank you.

I bought one of those in 1982, used but ran well, paid $100, just had to replace a gasket and gear bearing. I sold it a couple years later for $200, thinking I did good. A friend of mine here in Sacramento, Cal has Stihl. Husky, and Echo dealership, says that's worth easy $2K, he has one still in the box. and of course, without the compression release, it will be a bit hard to start.

I have this exact saw and mine is basically new but it has been stored . I had it running and used it a good bit but it sounded like it was running under water. What should i check ? I would love to have it rev tighter like this one. I have adjusted governer . Maybe build carb ? I run a 066 magnum and it would cut my 090 in half and be ready to do it 9 more times before i could get the 90 reved up

Great video. I'm in love with the old gear driven saws. I had a question, I'm looking for a carburetor and carburetor cover for a homelite 410, do you know where I could get those?
Thanks

And the most important feature you forgot to mention and likely the reason it has but only a few cuts on it; it weighs 55 fuc*ing lbs. Good for the back.

Hello, I converted an 070 to 090. I had ported out the cylinder and the chrome was flaking. I thought I had buffed it all out however it failed one day. I got new west cylinder from someone I knew but now the saw will break starter ropes like crazy. Kicking back like an old gravely. Everything seems perfectly fine as far as the crank. Any Ideas? Also the 070 cylinder is 500 miles away from me at the moment. It may just be the compression is too high. But I also had to weld the decomp closed so I can't test that theory.

What is the benefit to pulling the cord while your killing the engine?

Why do you hold the starter rope when shutting down the saw?
