Anna Sorokin (Russian: Анна Сорокина; born January 23, 1991) is a Russian-German convicted con artist and fraudster. Between 2013 and 2017, Sorokin pretended to be a wealthy German heiress under the name Anna Delvey. In 2017, she was arrested after defrauding or intentionally deceiving major financial institutions, banks, hotels, and acquaintances in the United States for a total of $275,000. In 2019, Sorokin was convicted in New York state court of attempted grand larceny, larceny in the second degree, and theft of services, and was sentenced to 4 to 12 years in prison. Netflix purchased the rights to a production relating to Sorokin and developed a television adaptation of her story entitled Inventing Anna, which was released in 2022.

Deception detection refers to the investigative practices used to determine a person's truthfulness and credibility. This is largely determined through the consideration of certain behavioral and physiological cues as well as larger contextual and situational information. There is no single, definitive sign of deceit itself; no muscle twitch, facial expression, or gesture proves that a person is lying with absolute certainty. Therefore, most modern-day methods of deception detection heavily rely on a variety of methods to collect, analyze and interpret emotional and physiological data.

The Behavior Panel comprises the world's top body language and behavior experts: Scott Rouse, Mark Bowden, Chase Hughes, and Greg Hartley. They analyze behavior and body language in videos of public interest. This non-partisan group aims to educate and entertain, focusing on nonverbal communication, deception detection, behavioral analysis, statement analysis, interrogation, and resistance to interrogation. Through careful examination of gestures, expressions, linguistics, and cultural context, they reveal truths and deceptions. The Behavior Panel is prominently featured on The Dr. Phil Show and has its own show on the US TV Network, Merit Street Media.

Greg nailed it with "I don't think she cares what you think ...she cares only as much as she gets out of you/it"

LOVE Greg's take on her - I would definitely pay to see him interrogate her. He doesn't fall for the emotional "connection" she tries to use to score a con. It is impressive to see his responses to her and it is confirmation that he can see through narcissists.

Interesting. Her birthname is Sorokina, a derivative of soroka. Magpie in Russian...one of natures greatest mimics.

Mark was onto something when he said “contrarian”, but it’s more. I think she sees everyone as her opponent and will never show any pain or regret ever. That’s the definition of winning for her. Basically, “your punishment and jabs are not even acknowledged. So I’m going to get back to my same behaviors and you can’t change that. I don’t acknowledge your authority and I’m the one in charge. You mad? Good”.

Her only regret is being caught.

So glad Chase realized that Anna's time in Rikers was beneficial to her. I think she took it on as a Master Class to learn from other cons and criminals. I heard her, during at least one interview, say she learned how easy identity theft is to perform.

Her ultimate weapon is her contempt. She just reflects back to people what they think about their own inadequacies and manipulates those feelings to elevate herself.

“This is what people fail to understand” Mark was spot on. Playing on the audiences fears.

When she says she learned a lot from being in Rikers Island, I'd want to ask her what she learnt.

When you guys are talking, it would be good to have the clip you are discussing, playing as a 5th window, really small, on a loop, in the middle... that way we can watch the video silently and pick up on all the things you guys are talking about.

Continually blown away by Mark’s sharp insight about what’s going on in the subject’s head. He’s awesome.

Cons never pity their victims. They figure if you are dumb enough to get caught up in the lie, then that's on you.

I don't care how flirtatious, cool, or rich this chick is/pretended to be, that blank stare is SCARY and should send anyone packing. If you don't feel that, you may want to double-check your intuition meter!

I like the comfortable, humorous interactions between all of you as much as learning from your show.

People like her who don't care that their actions hurt people make my skin crawl.

I love how Scott describes flirtation: “ girls getting all squishy around you”. It’s so true! Best description ever.

I’m absolutely amazed at the deep levels of observations you all analyzed about this woman. Her character is so callus towards other people: not to mention her numerous, despicable characteristics. I was both fascinated and disturbed about her lack of respect for people. A stone heart, out to get whatever she can take.
