So dang true. That's why I go to a mechanic when the repairs are too dicey. If it goes wrong, I want a pro.

I was given some advice a long time ago that has helped me many times.
"If you're not smart. Make friends with people who are."

I read that as “time travel” and I was like how tf is that supposed to be easier 💀

As a professional of a couple trades, semi professional in others, and a great diyee of everything else I have to say that this great advice. I do everything I need done myself and if I've never done it I'll be fluent when I'm done. A lot of these things arent for the faint of heart and you need more than just the basic understanding of all of it. If you have a track record of messing up and having to call someone, call someone. If you're like me and know where to tap, cut or screw it then get to it

This applies to literally all trades. Thanks for pointing it out.

Homeowners (some, not all) just don't seem to understand the value of having a professional take care of whatever it is they called for in the first place. So much more is involved than just the time and price. That's all they see and it's up to the professionals to educate them. Just like in this video. I appreciate that you create these videos. 👍

Paying someone who knows what they're doing the first time. Saves you from paying more to fix what you've done, or someone else to do it again.

Omg I've been saying that for years! What makes someone a professional is knowing what to do when something goes wrong. Or knowing what causes things to go wrong.

I know how to do a lot, I learned a lot from my dad and grandpa. I know how to do every part of my house. Anything that involves a major safety risk though I refuse to do myself. Professionals have a place, keep them employed

Thank you much for this. Your timing is impeccable. I can't thank you enough ❤️ today you made a difference in people's lives. I'm sure I'm not the only one!

I'm going to come at this from a locksmithing point of view. Sure you can get the 5 inch grinder to get into your safe. But you hire me to make sure you can still read the deed to your house or have to get a replacement for your passport.

Plus I can repair the safe.

That's why I work on my 85 and take my 2018 to the dealership. One I can afford blowing up, the other I can't

It never fails to amaze me how many people are experts at every possible thing in life. they know it all. don't even half to ask, they'll let you know. narcissism is the real pandemic.

I've heard the horror stories of similar situations where someone thought they could fix because they watched a video on YouTube and thought the were an expert till they had half their furnace torn apart wires everywhere its 2 am in July and they give and call a 24/7 service to come out and fix it. Poor tech has to spend hours figuring out what all was undone just to then diagnose and fix it. Sometimes the best thing to do is to understand that you don't know, shop the quote if you have the time, and go with the professional you feel comfortable that is going to not only do the job to the best of their ability but also stand behind it to the fullest if something goes wrong.

Hope that being said, it sounds like the absolute most valuable service you can provide is a one-time visit where you teach your clients all about how their systems work and how to take care of them properly.

Every time I try a new project I determine if the work or system is of a critical nature or not. If it is, I am always prepared to bring in a professional if need be. For everything else, I work until it works.

I really like this guy. Honest, doesn't make his profession sound like they are the ONLY way to do this, but just sharing his extensive knowledge on the subject. Seems like a straight-up dude.

Yep. It reminds me of the popular story called the giant ship engine that failed.

The ship’s owners tried one expert after the other when the ship’s engine failed but none of these experts were successful at fixing the engine.
An old man who had a lot of experience from fixing ships was brought in to give it a try. He opened up his huge tool bag and got to work immediately. He inspected the engine carefully and thoroughly.
Two of the ship’s owners were there watching while the old man as he worked .They were anxious to have the ship fixed. After the engineer was done with his inspection, he reached into his tool bag, brought out a tiny hammer and gently tapped on a part of the engine.
As if it were magic, the engine lurched into life. His work was done. The engine was fixed. He packed his bag of tools and left.
A few days after, the old man sent the owners of the giant ship, an invoice for 10, 000 dollars.
When the owners received it, the two who were there while the old man worked, exclaimed in shock that he hardly did anything. In response to the invoice they had received, they wrote, “We will appreciate an itemized bill”.
The engineer sent an itemized bill a few hours after and it read:
Tapping with  hammer ………… ……… ….. $ 2.00

Knowing where to tap ………… ……… ……. $ 9, 998.00
GRAND TOTAL ……………………………………$10, 000.00
