Are You A New Homeowner? I Have A Lot Of Tips For You!

When you buy a new home you may not be prepared for what you have taken on outside because inspections tend to focus on the inside. You may have a lot of invasive plants, a very overplanted or overgrown property, or you may have a clean slate. Outsourcing design or maintenance can be very expensive, as are new plants, and the amount of time or resources required can often catch people off guard.

A solid majority of the clients I meet with, and I have met with over 1,100 so far, are relatively new homeowners and there are major themes. Based on these consultations I have created a guide for homeowners to help you navigate this journey if you’re just starting out, or as you’re realizing it’s time to focus on this after the dust has settled a bit after living in your home for a while.

As I mentioned, I suggest the first thing you do is to identify what you have. How do you do that? With a plant identification app, I have found these to be more reliable than google images or iPhone plant ID. I used the free version of @PictureThisai for two years. (I will never lose the frugal yankee characteristic that is deeply ingrained in me!) You sign up for the trial period and when that’s done you hit the faint “Cancel” button at the top right of the screen every time you launch the app. Or you can just purchase it. (This is not an ad)

Anyone want to share other tips and strategies for new homeowners who are new to gardening?
