The "food chain" describes a hierarchy of organisms dependent on the next as a source of food. Food is a source of energy.
Sun ---> plant ---> cricket ----> bird ---> owl ---> decomposers etc. (Sry for the bad examples)
As you move down the food chain, only about 10% of energy is transferred over the next. The further along you go down the food chain, the less energy and biomass is transferred than at the previous trophic level. My theory is that since you have a plant based diet, you receive energy that is directly from the plant which is directly from the sun thus more energy reserved for you to consume.
