Typical Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Symptoms
IBS symptoms can occur daily or less frequently and include:
* Bloating (increased gas and water) in the belly
* Abdominal pain and cramping
* Constipation with hard lumpy stool (Type 1-2 Bristol)
* Diarrhoea
* Straining to empty the bowel
Bloating and Pelvic Floor Problems
Bloating with gas and fluid can worsen pelvic floor problems including:
* Prolapse bulging and heaviness
* Bladder leakage, frequency and urgency
* Bowel incontinence (gas and stool)
* Pelvic pain and pelvic floor muscle spasm
* Abdominal pain during hysterectomy and/or prolapse surgery recovery
Bloating with IBS occurs when sugars in some foods are not well absorbed in the bowel. Gut bugs live off the food and drink you consume. When sugars aren't well digested they draw fluid into the bowel and ferment increasing gas, bloating and discomfort.
Bloating Effect on the Pelvic Floor:
* Increased load (weight) on your pelvic floor
* Pelvic floor stretch
* Decreased pelvic floor ability to withstand loading

* Relaxation
* Medication- buscopan or mintec
* Herbal remedies - Iberogast or peppermint oil tablets enterically
* Gentle exercises
* Positions
* Kegels
* Low FODMAP diet
IBS Constipation and Diarrhoea
Main problems caused by constipation and diarrhoea with IBS:
* Straining to empty
* Worsening pelvic organ prolapse, rectal prolapse and hemorrhoids

*Increased load on pelvic organs
When you're constipated the bowel is filled with undigested food and wastes. This weight increases downwards pressure down on your bladder, bowel and uterus.
