For me, the drag on Layout development has been a real 'mare. But Layout is now nearer to where it should be. As part of my workflow to communicate ideas as quickly as possible (using BOTH elements of the programme), this is a game-changer.

Your absolutely correct about Tags. To be honest, what I don't like bout sketchup is the Interface design. It looks like a kids software. I hope they change it.

Is 20/20 a different program from sketch up?

Have they added search/replace functionality into Layout yet? I''m using 2018 (perpetual license). We recently changed building floor-to-floor elevations by a couple inches per floor. As all the drawings were already completed, I just needed to search and replace elevation tags. Had to manually change 80 separate tags, which could have been done in under a minute w/ search and replace.


I know, because I changed all my AutoCAD wall section tags in under a minute. It's a complicated 180, 000sf building, so lots of drawings.

Hi Matt,
I'm a complete novice at CAD, and have downloaded 'Sketchup Make 2017, being a free download, just to try it out first. However I'm struggling to do what I want, and wondered if you could advise me the best option of software for my needs.
I'm an architect and want to produce a full set of dimensioned 2D construction drawings, e.g. structural, architectural layout and services drawings, details etc., just as I would on a drawing board, and then create a 3D model from those plans.
With Sketchup make, I cannot even get started with a gridline base plan, unless I just don't know how....
I'm retired and only producing documents for my private use on my personal / occasional developments, and was hoping to avoid long term subscriptions, as the software would not be in continual use, as in an architectural practice. I would not have a problem with a years subscription if necessary, as long as I can save my work to my laptop outside the software, so I don't lose it if a subscription expires.
I would happily continue drawing on paper, but now I live in the tropics and am getting tired of pens drying / seizing up, tracing paper curling up, and copy negatives are unavailable.

So, when you're a SU enthousiast (like me) but never use Lay Out there's nothing new, only old (yard, Gallon and other outdated stuff) added.
Last Year you were sceptical, but how come you are positive this time? Do they pay well?

Somebody can tell me why it is so difficult to get models in sketchup? Now look like many of them are hidden so I must to waist lots time finding some good samples now they are supporting people that sell their products. Can be possible if somebody can tell me? How to use properly the model library?Thank you

I am planing on design a large scale maglev design for a startram, would this software be ideal??
Also should I use rather use blender because I'm not really sure where to get the money for this

Recently I experienced a weird thing.
In windows 10 and sketchup 2017,
I was working on a big project (3 skp files simultaneously.) All of the files were over 200 MB size. My computer was freezing frequently. Then I returned into sketchup 2020 in windows 8 and worked with the same files. But there it was not freezing.
So, is the problem with windows 10 or sketchup 2017?

So do you do home layouts for people who are not good at using the software? I tried the free version and could not figure it out. Even paid an online tutorial service to learn.
