Instead of the cloth to float the edges, try a damp grouting sponge. The sponges are also good to smooth caulking. 👍🏻

Been watching a bunch of these shorts and you do some excellent work.
So, what is with customers and their love of textured walls and or ceilings haha. It drives me crazy, and I thought the trend started to fade out with all of the DIY shows... specifically popcorn ceilings. I hate popcorn ceilings lol.

Hey brother I am a fellow handyman business owner here. I live southwest of Dallas. I am not sure where you are located at. You do excellent work. Our work couldn’t be told apart from one another. I am curious as to what you charged for this as I did a very similar patch today. When I was done painting I had been there for about three hours. I charged $350.00 for labor and material. Of course I had showed up with all the material and they had paint that I could use to match. Please respond with your pricing. Maybe you need to increase or maybe I do. I am curious.
