DERMATOLOGIST DR DRAY ANSWERS YOUR QUESTIONS ABOUT THERMAL BURNS WITH TIPS FOR TAKIN CARE OF A BURN.

TIPS FOR A FIRST DEGREE BURN:
1. Cool the burn. Immediately immerse the burn in cool tap water or apply cold, wet compresses. Do this for about 10 minutes or until the pain subsides.

2. Apply petroleum jelly two to three times daily. Do not apply ointments, toothpaste or butter to the burn, as these may cause an infection. Do not apply topical antibiotics.

3. Cover the burn with a nonstick, sterile bandage. If blisters form, let them heal on their own while keeping the area covered. Do not pop the blisters.

4. Protect the area from the sun. Once the burn heals, protect the area from the sun by seeking shade, wearing protective clothing or applying a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. This will help minimize scarring, as the redness from a burn sometimes persists for weeks, especially in those with darker skin tones.

I spilt hot tea on my leg last week, I put an ice pack on it for 20ish minutes then kept applying Vaseline. Its healed really well, no peeling, no blistering no scaring but minimal discolouration I’m happily surprised 🙏🏻❤️

This video really helped me out! I knew to get a burn cold asap but never bothered with covering a 1st degree kitchen burn and keeping it moist. But after getting a relatively big kitchen burn on my arm a week ago, I thought: "let's see what Dr. Dray has to say!" I'm glad I did - I followed these tips and burn appeared to heal significantly faster and, amazingly, with no pain. Now on to watch a scar video...Thanks, Dr. Dray!

Super helpful video, thank you!! My husband had a bad road rash (which I know is not a burn), but his doctor said the exact same thing about neosporine. The doctor did not have time to explain in detail the reason neosporine is not thank you!!! Love your videos.

I'd love to see a video about autoimmune diseases and the skin (like photo sensitivity, Lupus, lupus cysts, skin care for immune diseases, etc)!

That's very helpful, dr. Dray. You could do a video also on small cuts, scrathes, boils: antiseptics, higiene of the wound, ointments, best bandages(when is it better to keep a wound covered or not) and etc

You are beautiful as always Dr Dray! Your way of talking is so smart and articulate... like the way you formulate sentences while you talk sounds so literate, not like the average person, and I love it!

I just blender pitcher of near-boiling sauce just bottomed out all over me. In a excruciating panic, I ran straight to the cold shower. All red, I knew I had to look up Dr Dray’s tips that I knew must be here. Sure enough, she never fails and here I am with Vaseline all over me 🤣 thanks so much, Dr Dray! You’re a life-saver

I always have in the freezer a fresh leaf of my aloe plant ready to be used in case of a mild burn, that does wonders!
