In this video we are exploring one of America's Civil War battlefields. This one is the Petersburg National Battlefield located east of Petersburg, Virginia. Famous for the mine the Union Army tunneled under the Confederate lines and packed with 4-tons of black powder. When they exploded the charge, it ripped a huge crater in the Confederate line. The Union Army failed to pursue a coordinated attack against the dazed Confederates and squandered the element of surprise. In the end, it was a huge debacle for the Union Army. But the scar it left on the landscape can still be seen today! (FTHVN 785)
