I use to work at Ft Lee and walk out to the battlefield on my lunch break - tho you filmed this in the winter - it should be very green there right now. Very cool to see the battlefield again - great job!

My husband and I were there in 2004 at that location and they had just begun work on it. Amazing work on that exhibit!

It's so fascinating to see the early forms of trenches and fortifications that would become so common 50 years later in WW1

Love what you all do. My father was born and raised in Mechanicsville. Been to every battlefield between Richmond and DC. What you show is so much different than what I remember as a kid on these same locations

I was just there, my footprints r still there. Incredible site. If u have never visited Petersburg, u must. This site showing the fort and the crater r incredible. Everyone who is responsible for preserving this site, all the sites; maintaining and educating us r incredible patriots. We don’t leRn by bulldozing these sites where men and women, north and south, fought for what in 1860 they believed was right. Don’t judge the past using present day values and norms.

I was here, I saw the crater, a bunch of forts, and saw Five Forks. Then we went North and saw everything but cold harbor, .

Love these history channels. The biggest mistake our schools can do is remove Historical learning. Mankind’s understanding of our history is what can keep us from repeating the bad and understand and appreciate the good. To many people in this country are completely ignorant of our history, therefor the reason generations keep repeating the same stupid and preventable mistakes. We should be studying the fall of Rome! We have so many parallels happing today!

I can honestly say that is one of the best videos concerning trenches and the Civil War (trenches weren’t just used at Petersburg, the Overland Campaign, Vicksburg and Sherman’s attack on Atlanta saw extensive use of trenches). Showing all the parts of a trench system was helpful. Historic photos and diagrams are nice, this video was great. Thank you very much. In the future, you need to return after a rainstorm to show what muddy trenches are like.

I remember going here in the late 90s while on vacation in the area. Also went to Appomattox and Yorktown.
