In the Hippocratic oath, a physician pledges to prescribe only beneficial treatments, according to his abilities and judgment; to refrain from causing harm or hurt; and to live an exemplary personal and professional life.
This case is a perfect example of lack of abilities and judgement when CTVS doctor took patient to theatre 3 times within 24hrs. Why couldn’t he do a thorough check during 2nd surgery? Was he not sure about his surgical skills? Why did he not take a second opinion from a colleague/ senior when the case was beyond his capabilities? Many doctors prefer to put patient’s life at risk rather than their reputation by asking for help. THIS MENTALITY NEED TO CHANGE. For a doctor, patient’s safety should be the most important concern and that’s what they need to work for .
