CHAINSAW NOT CUTTING STRAIGHT? HERE'S THE SOLUTION

Is your chainsaw not cutting straight or cutting on an angle when you're cutting firewood? Here's a how-to tip to get your chainsaw cutting straight again. When sharpening a chainsaw, If the teeth on one side of the bar are filed down to a shorter length than those on the other side, that will make the chainsaw cut on an angle. The longer teeth will have to be filed down to match the length of all teeth on the chain.
If this tip doesn't work, then you may have filed the teeth at the wrong angle, or, the guide bar is worn and needs to be replaced.
Update: the above is true, but what is the root of the problem here is that one of the files in the 2-in-1 sharpener was worn so it was causing one side of the chain's teeth to file away more than the other side.

I used the Stihl 2-in-1 sharpener to sharpen the chain. This tool does an all-round job as it files the teeth and the rakers at the same time.
Chainsaw used is Stihl MS261C.

Hello from Piqua Ohio. I have that same sharpener that you have. I have 20-in, 24-in, 28-in, and 32-in bars. It's always great to learn new techniques! You never too old to learn. Keep up the great videos!

Great demo Anthony! I have found it is not as much the size of the teeth, but more the sharpness of the teeth, if you have 2-3 dull or chipped teeth on one side of the chain, then the cut becomes uneven and the saw will struggle on some species of wood.

Keep up the hood work!

Great demo, some nice looking rounds there too. Great job Anthony 👍 and full play. I like that stihl sharpener

Hate it when that happens, more noticeable on larger diameter rounds. Buckin Billy Ray did a video on this a couple years ago. He took a brand new chain and filed one side down to almost nothing and left the other to full length and it cut straight. I think the bar or rakers has something to do with it?

That worked well.. yeah most people like me will sharpen one side perfect and the other a mess ... couldn't find the 7/32 combo file here so I switched to the dremel tool..

Doesn't solve my problem. My new bar and new chain, sold to me by a certified stihl repairman, made 9 cuts into 12" diameter elm wood. Then on the 10th cut it started cutting on an angle and bogged down at only 3" deep. Dull blade now right! Dull after only 9 cuts? I question the quality of the stihl chain. To continue, I then sharpened the chain. I am not a novice at this. I am 72 and have been working a chainsaw since 14. It now only made 4 cuts into the elm trunk before cutting on angle and of course bogged down. I am convinced that the stihl chain is crap. We are talking almost new 20" stihl chainsaw. Going back to ECHO.

Wow your saw is barely cutting... no wonder it's wondering... that's like taking a spoon to fall a tree. Do some maintenance and learn to sharpen your saw. Those tools clearly aren't helping you to get it sharp
