The American Dream is not over. We have the technology today to create an economy of abundance, it just hasn't been used

The American dream is NOT OVER!! I usually agree with Jason but on this one point I disagree entirely with him. First HOME you live in IS NOT and NEVER WAS an investment that should have ever been seen as a path to wealth. PERIOD!! It a lifestyle CHOICE. Often a pretty damned expensive one too but it's ability to hedge against the costs of inflation has historically and still does make it a reasonable expense if you choose to buy.
Wealth is not created in home ownership. Wealth is created with investment. Not everyone is cut out to be a "go for it" entrepreneur" but fortunately that isn't required of us anyway. There is WALL STREET. A place where anyone can invest in the business and growth of others. If you can't get there. Can't start your own business or trust in investment in others. Then always your wealth and ability to create wealth is going to be limited to your income potential at a job. For most people that won't be enough.
The American Dream is alive and well. This is still the country where the rule of law and protections of ownership rights are strongest in the but as always there is "no free lunch" and at least some reasonable embrace of risk must be taken if you are ever going to get there.
....and really even if you buy into what Jason describes as what was the American dream and path to said a job and house were free of risk? Ask anyone who's ever been laid off or fired about the certainty of any job. Ask anyone who saw the value of their home crater in the 2008/09 melt down about the "sure thing" of home value.
To those who believe the American Dream is DEAD. Get over yourself and stop whining. Life can be tough. Get a helmet and get in there. There is no path to the good life for whiners.
