Why do you think the American dream is so hard to reach now?

As European living in America — I can totally see the US wasn’t what I expected it to be. Lucky I landed a remote job, and I’ll be trying to buy back my freedom. Consumerism is a real thing in America, so easy to get into that. Thanks for the video!

I am 28 male truck driver. I make $85k/year regional. I'm home every weekend and 2 or 3 nights out the week. I had 2 homes fully paid off. I sold them both and live full time in my truck now. I only spend 25% of my income. The rest is going direct deposit into savings account I have no access to unless in person.
I love this lifestyle, it's not stressful just work, visit family/friends and explore new areas. I see my friends every week and see my family in Mississippi every tuesday/Wednesday.
Also when I say I went home I'm referring to Kansas city kansas. I live in the truck but park there because all my friends live there. I get an Uber or whatever and leave the truck where it's at. You have 100% freedom

This video hit it right on the nail!! We gotta do the opposite of what society says to do so we can get ahead! We bought a small home and are remodeling it ourselves and have talked about starting a YouTube channel showing it for fun but if it took off that would be extra income! Thanks for your video! So inspiring!!

Unfortunately there are only so many 'nomadic' jobs that will satisfy the market. Someone needs to teach at schools, protect our country and communities, pick up our garbage, work at our banks and hospitals. Lots of great advice though. Less is more!

Why does anyone need to buy a house? We live small, in a 1-bedroom apartment. It’s fine.
Live simply, avoid consumerism, save for freedom. A house can become an American nightmare quickly.

The American Dream was named correctly. It is a DREAM. Hard work and the right things need to happen to make dreams come true. Today, people are confused with the American Entitlement instead of the American Dream. My parents worked full time, clipped coupons, cooked all meals at home (ordering pizza was a real treat), asked favors for babysitting, didn't invest in their retirement, and barely made it. Mom was a Nurse, and Dad was a supervisor at a factory. People look at the past with rose-colored glasses as if they had it easier. Priorities were different, but they still had struggled to reach the "American Dream" of that time. Just sick of hearing the American Dream when its people are confused with entitlement. Wants vs Needs, Priorities. BTW, I am a millennial who went into crazy college debt because I was told that is how to get a job. This is not a bootstraps speech from a GenX/Boomer.

Great advice Gabe. You won me over when you explained the combination of living simply and gaining skills. That's exactly what I did when I was younger - it sure paid of for me, not always financially, but in happiness. Olus, it really helps to find the right partner .

The currency supply has doubled since Covid, this has far reaching effects on prices in every area. The houses/cars/land/investments aren't worth more in real terms, it just takes more currency to buy them. Measuring value of any asset with expanding dollars, is like measuring your height with an elastic ruler; you can make it say whatever you want.

As a 53 year old woman I already have to work until 68 in Britain but thankfully we have a health service that is in reach no matter the salary

Love it. This has become so much more evident to me over the past year. Great lessons.

I think it’s the same everywhere.
Prices keep going up, but wages don’t.

In Thailand, we have to work over 30 years to buy a house
and 5-10 years to buy a car.

I believe the situation in the USA is not at its worst,
but the disparity between prices of house and wages is likely to increase further.

Thank you, Gabe! This was eye opening video!

I’m not from USA, just an European observer…. For me ”American dream” has always sounded like a marketing slogan for the better life America offers. Now that I listen to this, it got me thinking further…

1. if you call something a DREAM shouldn’t it be something harder to reach? A synonym to a “fantasy”? If it’s too available, then it’s not a dream, it’s a plan, or reality, or just “normal”. Disney has taught us that all the dreams come true, if you wish upon the star. But is that real? Is it real that everybody can become a millionaire? Many of us could try it, sure, but common sense tells you that there might not be millions available for everybody, if everybody succeeded. And if there were, where did this money come from?

2. Then comparisons to the old days… I haven’t seen it for real, so could you enlighten me please: are the houses the same size now that the ones in the 50’s ? I could only judge by the pictures I see from movies and vlogs, but it seems to me that back then the houses were much smaller than today. Big houses here cost crazy, for 200 000 euros you might get 1970s house with 150 square meters and 700 sq. meter yard in the suburbs. In capital area you might find 2 bedroom apartment for that price.

3. The new rich dream you propose sounds as a good alternative to the consumeristic one. But again, it is a dream. Something to strive for, but accepting that it could not be available for everybody. Imagine if 3 generations in a row would live like that, and that would be the new normal, would your grand grand children think it’s a scam? Who would build the houses, heal illnesses and keep the places tidy if everyone would be working from their laptops 3 hours a week while travelling?

What I’m trying to say is that the classic American dream has it’s beauty, the nomad dream you described sound freaking awesome. But the thing is that dream is a dream, it’s beyond reality or normal. It’s not supposed to be a wholesale product.

And while we’re at it…, shouldn’t a dream be something intrinsic and personal, carefully crafted by the individuals themselves? Not something fed from above?

If everyone would pursue their true own dream, I guess there wouldn’t be supply issues with that. But since a common dream is sold to millions of people and multiple generations, no wonder there resources are running out.

The dream is dead indeed. Once upon a time doesn't hold true anymore.

Its funny because you're not wrong! I have a friend that makes about 150 a year (after taxes) as a surgeon in ohio but always still complained about not having enough money, My advice?
Keep debt to a minimum. Cut expenses. Develop healthy habits like consistently saving money at regular intervals for investments to help you build wealth. If you work on this, your financial potential will grow exponentially. There are numerous opportunities to make money on the financial market. With the assistance of my financial advisor Abigail Ryan Ann, I was able to earn my first million dollars through passive investment in a variety of assets and right now my friend is on his way to a million too with her help. Goodluck!

Actually we changed over to a simplified life style. So much less stress. You don’t have to buy into the “American Dream “ to be happy 🤷🏼‍♀️
