Well here is the announcement/update I mentioned in yesterday’s vlog…
I have decided to end my teaching career after this semester. I am not exactly sure where I am going from here but I do know that I have made the right choice.

If these parents don't start teaching their kids respect and manners we will have zero teachers left. Good luck in your future! You have a great personality and are very friendly and warm. You will land on your feet in no time.

This is my 9th year teaching 1st grade. The past two years have been extremely overwhelming and overstimulating. Lack of subs leaves teachers with no breaks and behaviors are only getting worse. I have been contemplating leaving teaching as well and the behaviors I have are no where near what you have experienced. You are making the right choice. So sad to hear that you were not treated respectfully by admin. Best of luck in your endeavors moving forward!

I’m so sorry you went through this but I’m happy to hear you are leaving! I’m so grateful for your transparency, you are helping so many people! I can’t believe what is happening in elementary schools and I wish more people were as open and honest as you! I can’t wait to see what you do next! 😊

I am so sorry you had this experience! This is one of the many reasons we homeschool. We do not want our kids stuck for 7-8 hours a day with these kids.

Our kids have friends from homeschool activities, community activities, and church. They still see the bad behavior, but it isn’t for 40 hours a week. No adult, teen, or child should have to deal with this.

All I can say is GOOD.FOR.YOU 👏 Get out while you're still young. No one should have to put up with any of the that goes on in the education system these days. I just left education after 12 years and I couldn't be happier. You will find your "something else". Good luck 😊

I am a teacher retiring in May and I totally understand. Teaching today is so different, and much harder, than when I started many years ago. It has gotten worse each year. I will continue to watch you and wish you the very best of luck in your future. Would be interested in a future video on what you had to do in order to resign (teacher contract, etc.).

I still remember my shock and heartbreak during my first year teaching when a child threw a whiteboard at my head (just one of MANY behaviors in my class) and the first question to me was "Well, what did YOU say or do to that child to make them react that way?" I could not even respond. It was the first cold realization that teachers are valued very little. I'm still plugging along in my 8th year but I am not sure I'll retire from this.

I’m so sorry things didn’t work out for you, but you gave it your all, and you should definitely be proud of that!

Year 23 - I got my purse and walked out. I cannot tell you how much behavior has changed since I started in 1997. I’m so thankful I had a lot of happy years but at some point you have to keep your sanity. ❤

Good for you for not putting up with that. Better things are yet to come 💙

This seems to be such a universal issue in teaching today. Thankfully, the behaviors at my school are minor compared to some and my admin is pretty supportive. That being said, I have come to realize that the reason most incidents don’t get reported and handled appropriately is because (at least at my school) anytime we give a kid detention, suspend them, or put them in ISS, it goes against our school. The superintendent and assistant superintendents in my district harp on the principals about our “red marks” constantly. Those red marks come from poor performance and achievement, poor attendance, and the number of disciplinary issues. That’s why I think most behaviors in my district aren’t reported or handled and it’s ridiculous.

I am so sorry that you had to go through all the abuse from your students and lack of support from admin! I have been a Catholic school teacher for 15 years in a variety of socio-economic areas and student misbehaviors have never come close to that! I love teaching in a religious environment. The pay is less than public, but there are so many positives! Praying for you to heal and find your next step in your journey.

You r not alone. I taught at 2 different school systems and I did not like it either. I was also told thst I would not b teaching anymore and anywhere, too. You did the right thing!! When it doesn't feel right, it is time 2 go. There r too many other places you can go and get a job. Your mental health comes first. I support u!! 😃

For those of you who commented that she should have completed her contract - why? Why stay in an abusive relationship? And who are you to talk and judge? I am writing not from the US but from South Africa. Pretty much the same situation here, maybe worse, maybe not. I have also quit and had to see all my hard work for years go up in smoke. I do feel for you Brookelynne and you deserve all the understanding and support you can get, but we should keep our eye on the ball here: This is about more than just us as teachers who are being abused at the workplace; it is about the educational system globally going up in flames. We need to talk about the really hard topics and really confront them. The school system as is, is outdated. What needs to happen I don't know. I do think there are people with ideas, but they are not really being listened to. That's why we need to discuss.

Many teachers feel the same way you do. I used to teach at a few different colleges. I am now in the business world. There are a few former teachers there. Find the job that is right for you. Wishing you the best.
