For your end point assessment AM2, AM2S and AM2E they expect all tests to be carried out in accordance with Guidance Note 3. In this video we look at how to carry out an insulation resistance test on a 2 way and intermediate lighting circuit correctly.

This Is a students training aid for testing insulation resistance of a lighting circuit as pre Guidance Note 3. Full demonstration using a MFT Megger tester set on the Megaohms scale. How to prove all parts of the circuit has been tested by operating the 2 way switches and intermediate one at a time and repeating the test. By using this method the insulation resistance test on the lighting circuit will be carried out 4 times.

Do you Know Which Conductors Need to be Connected During the Insulation Resistance Test?

Hey gaz hope your well love the videos mate reminds me of my college tutor a few years a go very informative, I done my am2 few years ago now doing my 2391-52 inspection testing when I done my Am2 few years back they told me to operate the 2 way and intermediate 7 times and you say 4 times, why did they say 7 times and you say 4 times I trust you tbh mate but 7 times would cover the 4 times in any case, but I'm curious why the 7 times turning the switches on and off, is it to cover all scenarios in exam conditions? Also the 2 way intermediate can only work from 4 diffrent switching arrangement right?
On on on (arrangement 1)
On off off (arrangement 2)
Off on off (arrangement 3)
Off off on (arrangement 4)

Can you still test via the Earth/neutral bar in a full board with other circuits. Or do you need to remove the conductors to test the circuit individually? Thanks

the LED modules were disconnected, but the AC/DC adapters were still connected to the supply, they are sensitive to input voltage, they normally operate at 90 - 240 Vac, 500 dc IR voltage supplied exceeds the specification, it may damage the PTC inside the adapter which connect across the ac terminal

Gaz throwing 500 v DC through the LEDs won’t damage them at all, Nick Bundy tested that theory and the LEDs were fine JW also tested the theory on a smoke alarm at a 1000vDC and again it was fine. The only real reason to remove the load’s is so you don’t get skewered readings. But I agree we should always remove all load’s, that’s how we have always done IR testing. Also doesn’t amendment 2 require use to test at 250 v DC first to make sure there is no load’s in circuit. I believe that if you want accurate test results then get into the habit of removing all load’s . Or you may have to go back and test it all again . Who am I to argue i’am just a humble spark who’s opinion means nothing.
Fantastic video nice and clear explanation and demonstration.👍
Fantastic video as always Gaz👍👍

Do u need to remove L from MCB and N - E out the bars before testing for the AM2, as GN3 shows them disconnected

Why didn’t you get a dead short through the lamp when operating the switches? We’re they not connected?

what happens if you cannot disconnect all leds and other sensitive equitment can i use 250v?

can you not just bunch test and then operate the switches?

Great video but you called the earth bar neutral bar and the neutral bar earth bar 😂

I don't get it .
Why we have to repeat 3 test again ?
I don't think we need a reading between L /N for the two way and intermediate switching !
L/E should be enough for the two way and the intermediate ...

I have to ask this but are you really that bad at darts or have you got an infestation of wood worm looking at that board 🤣😂
