I think A Quiet Place would be an amazing show. Having each episode deal with a different story. It could take place anywhere, at anytime, and with anyone. Different writers/directors per episode.

Spoilers! We literally learn nothing about the invasion or monsters. We already had a day one scene in the second film's opening. This movie was completely unnecessary.

When you do a 7 minute review don't start it off with a 2 minute ad.

Having just gotten out of the movie, I’m going to disagree with your point on Joseph Quinn’s character. His parents being overseas is only a small part of it. During the scene in Sam’s apartment, he also mentions going to NYC for law school and says something along the lines of “It’s the one thing I was meant to do, ” which implies that either he dedicated his whole life to it, or he comes from a family of lawyers. When it’s ripped away from him in seconds, he feels like he has nothing left to live for until stumbling upon Frodo by pure happenstance. I found his journey of finding reasons to keep going, even during the end of the world, really resonant.

Till this day, I still feel A Quiet Place 2 Day 1 opening scene is one of the best sequences in a horror movie ever.

Frodo is the main protagonist in movie. He dealt with situation like a real pro.

This movie is a symbolism of kindness and a desire to live. A nostalgic feeling for what you missed when life was pure and beautiful. A fear of death mixed with already knowing your fate. The movie was a masterpiece in human emotions.

Djimon Hounsou Doesn’t get enough love. He’s fantastic in everything he’s in from Constantine to gladiator to this. I want to see him as the focus of a movie

Question for all: Did anyone else feel frustrated with the inconsistency of how sensitive the monsters were to sound? For example when the nurse manages to successfully turn of the generator with no monsters showing up, but then his shirt rips and it’s slashing time? Or in the final chase scene when Frodo is being carried down the pier by his butler, the creatures hear a can rattling over the sound of car alarms and glass and metal getting smashed and all of them turn and bolt towards them? I also noticed immediately that creatures seemingly don’t react at all to sounds caused by their own kind, which would be fine if it was explained but it is never addressed

I think Joseph Quinn’s character was lovely, he helps her and allows her to sort of have a perfect day even tho the world is ending

Two minutes for an ad in a 7 and a half minute video is crazy

I think you're underselling Joseph Quinn.. I cared deeply about his character because he brilliantly conveyed who that person was through his performance alone, without any need for superfluous backstory. Both his and Lupita Nyong'o's performances were brilliant and perfectly complimented each other. They're what made this film special. For me, far more so than the monster set-pieces.

Her being in hospice care really puts the events of the first day into a fascinating space. It really lends itself well to the character's motivation for going further into the city, as opposed to trying to leave with everyone else.

Eddie Munson really can't catch a break. He's attacked by Demogorgons, then by creatures triggered by sound.

6:30 Great review as always Chris. However, I'd argue that even tho the family dynamic is universally relatable, Joseph Quinn's character is super relatable too from the perspective of someone living alone, away from home, seeking opportunity in the US only to have it all stripped away.

*SPOILER*

Honestly, I liked how subtle the characterisation of Joseph Quinn's character is.
He's wearing this big, ill-fitting suit in the big city, saying that he's studying law because it's what he's SUPPOSED to do.
Then, at the end of the film, we discover that he's secretly a talented magician with great confidence on stage.
I like that the film never explicity states this, but we can infer that he's always wanted to be a magician but his family pressured him to America to pursue a steady career as a lawyer.
He feels very lost in his life, and now that he has recognised the apocalypse is beginning, he feels that all paths for him are coming to an dead end. This is why he just decides to join Sam in her simple quest for some pizza.

(Btw, props to my girlfriend who pretty much pointed this all out to me.)

I maintain they should have waited to make this until after A Quiet Place Part III because of Part II's cliffhanger ending, but I'm still excited to see this. Lupita especially is a modern acting legend and I can't wait to see her in another horror movie after she blew me away with Us.
