Cheap strings vs expensive strings - Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys vs Paradigm

I thought i'd try some more expensive electric guitar strings as I've been using Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys for over a decade. I opted for Ernie Ball Paradigm slinkys and this video compares how they compare to their non-paradigm counterparts.

Hopefully this will give you an idea of the difference between cheap and expensive electric guitar strings, and if not, it should just be something interesting to watch.

Let me know your thoughts on what you feel sounds best as I'm interest to hear how it sounds on different sound systems.

Thanks man, great video. Apprecitate you playing without distortion, really got the hear what each set sounded like. I won't buy the Paradigm either. Thanks again for saving me $$.

the sustain is a very noticable difference = The Paradigms excel in that area for both clean and distortion - I use them - Do a sustain test and decide

The high expensive strings sounded to me like they were a touch warmer on the lows only while strumming, but they sounded the same when picking. Weird!

The regular Slinky would cut thru
A mix better in my opinion.

I have been using the regular super slinkys for at least 15 years now. Either I mistakenly ordered the wrong strings or Amazon sent me paradigms as a mistake. Either way I am about to string up the tele and see what I think.

I don't like the uneven string to string balance of the regular slinkys. Particularly the b and low e. D'addario offers the balance tension for that reason but they feel rougher and are stiffer. What is your take on the paradigms when it comes to overall string tension and string to string tension?

Regular to me sounds better here. I like primos myself. The hybrid line of their strings are interesting

Tone wise I didn't find a significant difference. I've actually been using D'Addario NYXLs lately because they last so much longer. Maybe the paradigms last longer too?

The regulars sounds good to me I guess the paradigm has a little bit of more volume and tone but just a little bit and I guess they are made to last longer for a recording session studio or a live performance. But I really don’t

Hard to notice the difference, both sounded good in my opinion. My all time favorites are the nyxl’s, and it’s because they’re longer lasting, not because of the actual sound lol

I preferred the regs. Brighter tone. Note to self buy cheap strings.

Usually use .010 of the regular. Recently switched to the PARADIGM .009 on my ERNIE BALL JP12. Used it for 1st time at NEW YEARS EVE party and broke a high E string. Go figure! Never seems to happen to STEVE LUKATHER. etc. :-)

I just bought the same two packs, , I think they advertise they’ll last two years, , we’ll see if they last longer maybe less corrosion or some coating applied?but I’ll put them on and let you know if that’s true

Let’s be real. The only people who recommend these over a regular set are ENDORSED by Ernie. 3 packs of regular vs 1 pack of paradigm for the same price. It’s a gimmick.
