This is some of the finest bass playing I have ever heard. I've been into rock, blues, r&b, funk and jazz for over 50 years and this guy is among the very best bass players ever.

Careful Charles, if your technique keeps improving at this rate you’ll tear a hole in the bass-time continuum. Magnifico!

I’ve been playing bass for 20 years and my jaw is on the floor right now. The legato and sheer accentuation of the notes was absolutely incredible. That tone was also unbelievable.

I absolutely love his videos. I've been a rock drummer all my 66 years and always paid attention to basslines and always admired people that could step outside the stereotypical function of their instrument, but he's freaking unbelievable on the base, phenomenal👍👍👍👏👏👏

I am under the impression that they were standard bass strings that turned to gold after you played them. Incredibly awesome playing as usual!

bro, i don't care how good those strings sound on their own. they are NOT where the magic lies. it's in you. well done. i could listen to you all day and i'm not even a bassist!

Nice strings and all, but I think this guy's talent is what we're all really marveling at

The resonance of the strings and the playing might be one of the most fantastic things I'VE EVER SEEN! Unreal. What a talent!

when I grow up, I want to be like Charles. The thing is, I'm 42 already

Strings don't play by themselves.
I play the flute. I remember a time when I complained about my student flute because I couldn't play a difficult passage. My teacher took it out of my hand and played the passage perfectly and said to me: "It's not the flute. It's time and dedication."

Finally, something to which the word "fantastic" can be truly applied. Beyond belief! Fabulous!! You use the gift extremely well. THank you, Charles.

I have never enjoyed bass solos. I just listened to this one three times in a row. There are musical colors here I didn't know existed. Incredible.

Wow. This was one of the better bass solo's I've ever heard. Content like this is the one thing that makes Youtube still worth clicking on.

just started playing bass in like february and im just marvelling at how you can play so quickly but so cleanly. you and victor wooten are definitely my biggest inspirations and although im late to the game im making quite a bit of progress fairly quickly. gonna tackle classical thump for like the next three months lol. keep being upsettingly good at bass charles, it fuels the fire in us all who are lucky enough to witness it

You don't need gold strings to sound great Charles, you are incredible just by yourself.

Actually the correct title would be “I sound great and these gold strings are an added bonus!” Love playing your bass jams on my commute to uni🤟🏽

Edit: WOW This is a crazy amount of likes! True testament to the knowledge and strength of Charles's fanbase.

The intensity of this is breathtaking! The bass line and the voicings are so elegantly intertwined and maintained thoughout the whole piece, it's incredible! If it weren't for the video, I would have expected two people playing this.

Love the LOTR melody at the beginning, very nice playing as always, Charles. 👀👌
