Here are 3 options that you can try first to prevent digital eye strain and computer vision syndrome, before trying blue light glasses.
1. Try and take adequate and frequent breaks during screen time. The golden rule for computer use is the 20/20/20 rule. Every 20 minutes, take a 20 second break, and look 20 feet away. It’s best to focus on blinking fully during this time. Sometimes the strain can come from not only your focusing muscles getting tired, but from your eyes getting dry while staring at the screen. Consider using an artificial tear eye drop during that break.

2. Look into computer specific glasses. Computer glasses are designed with a slight “add” power, or a specific focal power for the distance of your monitor or screen. This can lessen the demand of your focus muscles needed, and ultimately decrease eye strain. There is also “Prism” that we can put in glasses. Prism can shift the image you are looking at to lessen the demand of your convergence muscles in your eyes, or the muscles that are turning the eyes inward to keep a single image. These are prescription that you can get from your eye doctor.
👉Some people can use mild over-the-counter reading/computer glasses depending on their eye prescription. They aren't the best, but they can work for a lot of people. You can find out the power you need from your eye doctor.
3. Consider “migraine glasses”. These are glasses with a specific tint to help with migraines. If you have digital eye strain couples with headaches, migraine glasses may work well for you.
