Ubiquiti Insider: UniFi Network 7.3 | ISP Design Center | EV Station [Nov 2022]

Welcome to Ubiquiti Insider, where we share insights into the latest Ubiquiti R&D advancements. 

Let’s start with UniFi’s expanded VPN experience: For an absolute no-hassle VPN setup, we have invented something we call Teleport.  Just launch the WiFiMan app on any smart device anywhere in the world and connect.  It’s that simple.

And if you’re a power user that still prefers a traditional VPN Server setup, we have you covered with the faster performance of WireGuard, now also in 7.3

Finally, what if you just want a single device on your network always connected to VPN?  Perhaps a TV connected to Switzerland? No problem! Simply create a Traffic Route and use the new VPN client bridging feature to direct traffic for a specific device to anywhere in the world.

Moving on to our security advancements: Our expanded system log now provides admins with powerful event tracking of their deployments. From session activity, to configuration changes, UniFi’s system log provides timestamped details along with a fully customizable push notification system.

We’ve also updated UniFi Talk and our line of Touch and Touch Max Phones, enabling greater customizability with a pin-protected Lock Screen, scheduling for your status, wallpapers, and the ability to assign specific ringtones to contacts. Additionally, we introduced an intercom feature, and the ability to send and receive SMS with your Talk numbers so you can interact and engage with your contacts in more ways. Finally, make sure a call is always answered with Ring Flow, where you can customize a ringing sequence for your incoming calls. And with the ability to set a Failover Redirect Number you can protect against any service interruptions.

USIP and ISP Design Center now work together to make link planning even easier. In UISP Network, simply click on the ISP Design Center icon on the map and your network will be seamlessly integrated into ISP Design Center. From here, you can import a UISP network from your account or a self-hosted application so you can quickly plan and simulate coverage for new customers, and continue expanding your network.

We announced the WiFiman Wizard, a new battery-powered Spectrum Analyzer that connects via bluetooth to your smartphone and brings spectral magic to your WiFiman App, unlocking incredible insight to help you build better wireless experiences.

We introduced the UniFi EV Station, the world’s first EV charging platform specifically designed for organizations. And with the UI mobile app, organization members can start charging their electric vehicles with a single touch of a button.

We also introduced our first product within UniFi Mobility, the UniFi Mobile Router, a compact LTE router that can be instantly set up to provide reliable Internet in any environment – even on the move.

I feel like Ubiquiti went from a bit better than consumer wifi/router/switches/cameras to multiple segments I had no idea they were part of.. mobile router is cool, ISP management..what? Had no idea. EV charging hardware and integration..wow. As long as they keep up on the updates/fixes this is exciting to see! Now.. if they could just lower the prices of their cameras to only about 2x the price of competitors.. that would be great. Love the cameras.. but $400+ for one is a LOT of money when competitors are in the $100 range with similar capabilities.

Got a USG pro switch. I'm really disappointed with the two ISP load balancing, it's not at all intelligent for when throughput drops significantly to rely on the ISP that is not being throttled or failures.

The Client VPN to device with a traffic route added doesn't work

Wait a tick...WireGuard? Teleport? These are not available to those who have the UXG-Pro. A bunch of us made the switch over because the all-in-1 was not going to be sufficient for our traffic.
