2021 Buick Envision | It's Good...But I'd Rather a Venza

When the Envision became a runaway hit in China years ago they made the decision to import it to the States. And now 4 years later a more Americanized version has arrived but one that’s still built in the People’s Republic. Bigger than the Encore and Encore GX and smaller than the Enclave this is a compact-sized 2-row SUV that now looks much more attractive and car-like. It’s priced from the mid $30ks and now comes in Buick’s highest Avenir trim, like here.

I can Envision myself driving one of these stylish avenue-cruisers to Starbucks to buy a Grande, but I'd rather have a Venti, because size matters.

That's all I got folks!

This 2021 Envision looks the part and smokes the Acura RDX in 30-50 mph, 50-70 mph and best the 60-0 mph stopping 15-feet shorter in Car & Driver testing. Such good price too!

All of Buick crossover models starts with the letter "E". Lin Woodward of Kelly Blue Book said if Buick made another crossover it would be called, "Enough!"

Hey Steve. I certainly agree with you regarding a 360 view camera. I think this new Envision looks much better on the outside than the previous one. Also, I anticipate the actually selling price of that Avenir FWD to be in the 34-36 range especially if someone waits until Fall 21.

Our local dealer is already discounting the preferred trim units to 27k. That puts it in CR-V and Rav-4 price territory.

I know China is a huge market for GM but I wish they hadn't sold Opel and still imported them as Buicks. The cars were a lot more exciting... Maybe Stellantis will start importing Opels to the US.

Fact: 3 of 4 Buicks are assembled in Asia. The Envision as mentioned is assembled in China. The Encore and Encore GX are assembled in South Korea. The Enclave is the lone domestically assembled Buick. Assembled in Lansing, MI.

That exterior.... nicely done! Looks like something Mazda would design. The interior is definitely better than GM's in the past. I get why this has appeal. We recently looked at the Venza and didn't really like it's design or the lack of space in the back. Can't believe I like something GM has made. Too bad about the lame engine. For 45k, GM needs to put their NA V6 in the Avenir trim.

Totally the coolest story Steve. Just watched your Venza review as well. I found the Venza nice, but the space packaging (especially back seats), infotainment, and the overall looks of it just killed it for me. Buick often has very aggressive discounts and having a family member in the organization who gives you even deeper discounts makes it a no brainer to get the Avenir over the Venza, at least in my case. Having owned many Toyotas and modern Buicks over the years, we have actually found that Buicks were much more reliable, and cheaper to maintain overall. Thanks for the awesome video. Cheers!

Good that you made an impact in GM's advertising.

The Venza seems a bit dated compared to the Envision, both having been restyled. I don't see the Venza outselling this car either. My main concern is the pricing where there are alternatives once you're well into the 40k range. It's more comparable to Lincoln or Lexus than Toyota and for a bit less.

I don’t agree about the Venza. It’s kind of apples to oranges. “Premium” vs “mainstream.” Compact vs midsize. They serve different purposes at the end of the day, and cater to different audiences. It’s tough to make such distinctions these days with 100, 000 crossovers on sale, but I don’t find these to be competitors so much as a Venza and Murano would be.

Great review Steve. I had one of the older versions as a loaner when my lacrosse needed some work. I was impressed with the older model on the inside. The outside however was a mess. This looks like a big improvement on the outside and a touch better on inside with the Avenir package. I bet this sells well though the older Florida set.

I have a 2021 Buick envision with 37, 000 miles on it and it’s remarkable. Super comfortable actually quite fast the infotainment system is amazing and it looks way better than pretty much most Toyota SUVs out there and the nonsense about Toyotas being so reliable, is a thing of the past. They are good that’s for sure but Buick is rated near the top for a very long time we’ve had zero issues Drives like new with 37, 000 miles on it although it’s only 2 1/2 years old that still says a lot and we have the preferred package so it’s right around 45000 I believe after about 5000 in rebates it took it down pretty well

Nice review Steve... Liked the opening bit about the Venza, nice touch. What's all this stuff about baseball at the end? LOL
