I love how they gave every one of the boys on the team their own signature moment.

Gene Hackman - cool, down to earth, tough, smart, humane - who else could have played this role? Nobody. What a great actor and wish we had a few more like him today.

Coach: What's gotten into you?
Strap: It's the Lord. I can feel His strength.

Strap looked like he could dunk it. On his layup he slapped the backboard at the level of the rim.

Always reminds me of the line from Chariots of Fire: God made me for a purpose, but also made me fast.

I was an average pick up basketball player. But this scene gets to the truth that every once in a while, even decent players can have days when they just can’t miss. That ain’t god folks, that’s hoops baby!

Actually I think that line conveyed a lot more meaning than simply the coach instructing the player to get into gear. That was his way if telling him who is boss. It was Hackman losing his patience like he did with another player he punched out. In this circumstance he knew he had to say something or he couldn't win the game. He was telling him who was running it.
He might have been a Christian and faithful and devoted but with respect to basketball it was him, taking over and he better listen if he wanted to play in the game.

I can never understand why Christians think that there god is so interested in the outcome of sporting events. Maybe he helps the team he has money riding on.
