How To Replace A Broken Antenna In 10 Minutes

How to replace a broken antenna mast. I completed this repair on my truck and it took less than 10 minutes. It was an easy repair that anybody could do.

You first have to remove the old antenna by removing the securing nut on the antenna mast. Remove the old broken antenna. Take the new antenna and push it as far down as you can before you feel resistance. Make sure the grooves are facing the same direction that the old antenna mast grooves were facing. If you don't know then you may have to do a little trial and error until you get it right. In my 1999 Toyota 4Runner I had to have the grooves facing backwards. Turn your radio off while the antenna is inside the housing. You may have to push the new antenna and move it around until the wind up mechanism catches the grooves. The new antenna should seat properly. Tighten the securing nut.

Funny how such a niche video tutorial from years ago will keep getting traffic (ha) for years to come.

This little tutorial was so clear, concise, and useful! It helped me replace the antenna on my '94 Chrysler Concorde with one that looked better, and works so much better than the one I destroyed in a car wash.

Thank you!

Thanks for posting this. Every other video I saw told you to remove the front wheel and all of the wheel well shrouds. Saved me hours!

Thank you for the video. I broke my antenna in a car wash and I'm the least mechanical savvy. The video gave me the courage to fix the antenna on my own. It took me less than 10 minutes to swap out the antenna. Weirdly the grooves on 2001 4runner were facing the other direction. Thanks again.

So helpful! Thank you for posting this video. Worked perfect for a day. Now it needs an assist to go up. Can someone explain why this is happening?

Great video, on my 1997 4Runner the grooves were facing forward and it was able to catch and go all the way in after the radio was shut off. Thank you for posting.

i put mine on my 1993 honda accord and mine doesn’t close all the way but i don’t mind that. the thing that does bother me is it makes a noise when it goes down and up almost like a farting noise as if the cable is scratching. i put grease on the cable as well and still makes the noise

How did you get the old cable out? I don’t see that in the video.

the most important part you left out was removing the wheel and plastic cover to see what you need to do under there

VIEWERS - READ THIS FIRST: Unfortunately this is only half a job. The presenter just feeds a new antenna and its attached flexible slotted cable into and existing motor-body and its feed-in pipe.
There's no mention of getting the old broken stuff out - it's like ramming a musket-ball on top of an existing musket-ball, a cannonball into a loaded barrel - choose your own metaphor.
Incomplete. MOVE ON.

Would this work on a 2004 Toyota Sequoia?

Could you link the website you purchased the antenna mast from? Would be greatly appreciated. Keep up the good work on your videos!
