Somewhere there is a group of giants sitting around a fire telling stories of the great chief thunderbeard’s battle with a warband of dwarves.

I'm Afghan American. I asked my in-laws that were from the mountainous regions of Afghanistan, whether tales of giants were common. My mother-in-law looked me square in the eye and told me "there's a lot more in those mountains than just giants."

Also, the people are Afghans not Afghanis. An Afghani is currency. It's like calling an American a dollar.

I love that there's no cheap horror here. The atmosphere is thick and spooky thanks to great art, acting and sound design

I deployed to Iraq in 2005 and we of course stopped in Kuwait to do a two week climatize lay over. Another soldier and I got tasked to go clear a part of the desert for Bedouin’s or camels or anything that could be hit when we did our live fire excessive. We came over a small dune and basically went nose first in to the beginning of a very very large cave type hole. There was an extremely huge black serpent looking creature not even 25 meters away from us just inside this opening. It was humungous. Shiny black with yellowish like eyes. The only thing I can compare it to is the black dragon from “train your dragon” ( one of my kids favorite movies lol ) anyway when we came up on this thing it shook violently which caused sand to come down in all directions and it was gone… we drove back in silence, tried to tell the PL but he was so lost in the task at hand he barley even listened. True story man! I know people will say I’m bs’ing but whatever. Saw some crazy sht in Afganistán as well. Old countries have old secrets.

What's very fascinating is that I'm First Nations and we have stories of Cannibal Caucasian Giants with long hair and beards, six fingers and two rows of teeth that lived in the mountains east of the Ohio River Valley up until around 500 years ago that our ancestors used to go to war with and several rival tribes eventually teamed up to kill them because they were all sick of being preyed on by them.

These same red haired giants are in Indians stories in Winemucca, NV. A couple of decades ago, my dad and I were there buying property and happened across a small museum there. We went in, just curious, and checked thungs out. Inside they had a couple of huge skulls and a few huge, obviously human type bones there. Small chunks of reddish hair still attached to the skulls. Well, not too long ago, the skulls were gone and I asked the curator where they were? He said that the Smithsonian in D.C. wanted to study them and they sent them there, but when they wanted them back, the Smithsonian told them that the remains were "lost in their system and couldn't be located." So much for transparency and honesty from the Smithsonian.

This puts Combat PTSD on a whole other level. How do you come back from that, and try to explain it to the Cleaver family down the street, and not look crazy AF

I am a combat infantry veteran who saw a very large person through a CROW systems thermal that was mounted on top of the vehicle I was in. This was in the kandahar region in 2011.

I love how Snopes claimed to have "debunked" the story of the Kandahar giant after they asked the Department of Defense because they denied it.

I spoke to a man who told me he was captured by enemy forces in Afghanistan he said they were irritable and barely slept. They were terrified of giants living in the mountains near their base. Him and others were freed after a few months because one of these giants attacked their base in the night killing all the soldiers. Another prisoner had got out somehow and opened the cells they were kept in. On their way to safety (wherever that was) this guy was pointing out dead soldiers and dark spots and saying "look what it did to them!" And "that must be it's blood.
When they finally got back to their allies they were told they had to sign NDA's saying they couldn't talk about it.

There's every chance this was just a tall tale. But honestly I couldn't decide what to believe. He had nothing to gain just telling me this story and he was very sincere and open about my doubts. He said if it didn't happen to him he would never have believed it either. Very interesting.

I cannot believe that this channel doesn't have billions of view! Fantastic vids from this channel. The artwork, the sounds in the background, the voice, superb. He does everything himself-the editing, the voiceovers, the script(minus the sketches), a true diamond in the rough channel.

Edit: wondering, don't our soldiers all have cell phones?

My dad did a tour at Spin Boldak. Afghanistan is like another planet. I remember him showing me photos of a local hedgehog, even that was like nothing anywhere else. I can imagine that between the vast, sparsely populated, dangerous, and harsh terrain there is definitely very unique things out there.

I used to work in physical therapy for veterans. A client of mine says he came to that area of Afghanistan right after the Kandahar giant. He said it was a big topic for everyone to talk about when he was new there. So my first time hearing the story was from a 2nd hand witness.

I definitely believe this story, I have had many family members in service . I notice their actions when they come home . Before I ever heard this story . At one of our family’s get together , we went to an area that has several caves along side a river. My nephew did not walk along with the rest of the family, he walked far ahead and to the right, down a hill by the river . I knew he was scanning very intensely, I had never seen him do that before in all the yrs he had served . He served in Afghan.

So for the Afganistán story-

It was 2003 and I was on my second deployment to Afganistán. This deployment put us on and around the border of Pakistan/Waziristan/South Eastern Afganistán region. This took place around 2003/04. So we were on a mounted patrol on the way back from a 2 week movement to contact op. I was in the lead truck as a 50 cal. Gunner. Not going to lie we were in a hurry to get back and everyone was super tired, hungry and dirty. I remember It was probably around 1pm or so and definitely hot out. My Lt. was asking me something I can’t remember what when we came around a tight curve in the river bed we were navigating down. When we hit the corner there was a man with a rpg on his shoulder with a burlap sack that had a few rpg rounds sticking out. I immediately engaged him which lead to a very loud instant of my gun fire echoing and his rpg rounds popping off when hit with 50 cal rounds. It all happened very suddenly and prior to this happening it was pretty much silent besides the trucks engines. In that instant of me firing there was a sound of to me was a huge push of air right above where we were at on the peak of the cliff . It sounded almost like something with air boosters pushing away. Almost simultaneously rocks came down from that cliff and a very, very large shadow covered the two trucks as whatever it was flew away in the opposite direction. Here is the crazy part- as I scanned the cliffs I saw two enemy fighters on the opposite peak that looked almost frozen in shock and fear. They were both armed with what later was found to be PKMs and could have definitely engaged us but did not. They were frozen staring upward in what I feel was disbelief. In retrospect as I contemplated this over and over I believe the swooshing sound were gigantic wings and that the “thing” that flew away could have been maybe a winged dinosaur. Not sure what else it could have been. Scared the sht out of me though and obviously the two other fighters that were present that day. My team and the gunner in the rear tuck also heard and saw the shadow go over head. Crazy stuff out there.

The Giants of Afghanistan pops up I will watch. Doesn't matter whose telling it. Honestly though you covering it is the cherry on top.

I have patrolled through every sea level of Afghanistan. You can tell what ancient army went through what region. In the deep mountains they’ve still got villages of blonde haired blue eyed kids

Fun story. I have a colleague who is a former military guy (Australian) who served time in Kandahar. A while back, I loosely mentioned the story of the Kandahar Giant to him (not super specific) and he mentioned how him and his patrol would see him all the time. Apparently, they gave the name of something like Dirty Foot (or similar, I can’t completely remember) and whenever they’d get back to base they’d joke and casually talk about how they saw Dirty Foot from the chopper on their patrol.
