Ten Principles When Considering Alleged Bible Contradictions

J. Warner Wallace answers questions about Christianity in his “Think Like a Detective” series on RightNow Media, the “Netflix of Christian Bible Studies”. In this video, J. Warner addresses the question: Why should we trust the gospel accounts when there are places where they don’t seem to agree? Doesn’t this apparent disagreement disqualify them as reliable records?

You can purchase the DVD set for the Cold-Case Christianity group study (it comes with a facilitator’s guide) along with the Cold-Case Christianity Participant’s Guide.

Interesting... I would like to have your opinion on two questions:
1. Do you consider the three synoptic gospels to be completely independent from each other?
2. Do you consider the minor contradictions in the gospel accounts a problem for the evangelical inspiration and inerrancy doctrines ?

Hi Jim just wondering on your thoughts on The Gospel Of John where Andrew as one of 2 of John The Baptist disciples followed Christ after invitation for 10hrs then Andrew went and got his brother Simon saying "we have found the Messiah" and brought him back to Christ. Andrew brought him back to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said "Simon the son of John. You shall be called Cephas ( which means Peter). Now my question in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke Christ met Simon/ Peter fishing Matthew 4:18 example as in Mark and Luke. Don't get me wrong just trying to figure this out. You can't go from a totally different scene of people meeting to a totally way different place of meeting. Again don't get me wrong love The Gospel Of John but I believe this must be addressed

Human error in a book inspired by the "supreme being"?

The problem with the acceptable variance model of reliable multiple eyewitnesses is the presumption of infallible inspiration; which would preclude the variances. At least that is the general Biblical view of inspiration held by some Christians.

Look. It gives the NT much more creditability to realise that the synoptic (4) gospels have variations! we note the personal flavour of each one; Matthew worked for the Romans, thus he mentions this aspect a number of times. Luke was a physician thus medical terms! Marck was a servant, thus a briefer and more to the point gospel! John was the 'beloved' thus more on the theme of 'love'! Contraditions? No, variations. Oh! what about one gospel syas "Jesus was going INTO Jerico" another gospel "he was going OUT"? Contradition? No...There were TWO Jericos! the ancient one and a more modern one! ( see Matt 20:29 & Mark 10:46)
