Thanks everyone for your patience during the brief hiatus. Arabic-Italian-ish speaking people with ancient temples that like to eat dumplings filled with ricotta with mashed peas, This was a really fun country to research and thanks to all the Maltese geograpeeps that helped out and stay tuned for FLAG/ FAN FRIDAY in my NEW house!

I'm Maltese and as soon as I saw this video's title, I was like "Oh lord, this guy doesn't know what he got himself into". The reason for this is that a couple of years ago there was a popular-ish Youtube channel that made a video about our accent and got it completely wrong and the comment section was bombarded with angry and offensive comments and thousands of Maltese people on Facebook were sharing the video and writing how disgusted they were with it. My first thought was that this video would be a repetition of that but I was wrong I'm surprised at how much research went into this detailed and very surprisingly accurate depiction of this small, secret island of ours. You even got some of our more obscure features and information right. Well done and thank you for doing my country justice with your work :)

Fun fact: the name of the capital, Valletta came directly from the name of the french grand master of the order of saint John of malta ( Jean de La Valette) who was the grand master at the time of the Great Siege by the turks. It was a crushing victory for the order against overwhelming odds. The decisive actions and wise choices of the grand master had an important part in this victory. For french the name of the capital is "La Valette".

my dad told me about Maltese fishers that always fished off the shore of libya back in the 60s-90s & how one of them decided to live in his childhood neighbourhood & he was just the old maltese guy that lived alone but was loved & invited to all the neighbourhood's events. We also used to have a quite large maltese community in my hometown in Libya.

The reason the flag has a medal on it is because the entire island was awarded the St George's across after WW2 for the role they played and bombing they went through

So Maltese is a mixture of Arabic, Italian, French and English. Never knew that!

I love how that satellite map showed how small Malta was, as you could see the ferry boats (when he was talking about the ferries between the Main Island and Gozo)

Such an amazing video and I’m glad Australia got a mention towards the end. My grandparents on my fathers side were born in Malta and moved to Australia in the 1930’s. 10 years ago I got my dual Maltese citizenship as I am 1/2 Maltese by blood. I’m going to visit my country for the first time in my life in 3 weeks and I’m so damn excited. It’s been a long time in the making as I’m 27 years old! All the stories my family have told me about Malta and I’ll finally be able to see and experience it for myself.
