A big reason the tomb of Qin Shi Huang isn't opened is because doing so could damage the historical artifacts inside. The terracotta army was actually fully painted when they were first excavated, but after being exposed to the outside climate that detail was lost. Unlike Egypt, large parts of China have a humid climate that causes artifacts to rot and degrade. In the future technology might develop so that the tomb can be studied without damaging the contents, so it's best to wait right now. A lot of ancient sites like Stonehenge and the pyramids were damaged significantly by archaeologists that were a few centuries premature of being able to do a proper job.

So fun thing, i have actually been to the Vatican archives. I got a master's degree in library science and studied in Rome briefly and was given a tour with my class. We actually saw Henry VIII's annulment request!

Japanese: don't enter to amaterasu's temple. It's disrespectful 😡

Also Qin Shi's tomb is (according to legend) STUFFED with mercury, literally rivers of the stuff, so you'd probably die even if there aren't booby traps.

A lot of the Vatican archives have actually been digitised and made publicly available in recent years. Qualified academics can also apply to access the secret archives for research purposes, but only for a period of up to three months. They're not as secretive as their reputation

How sure are you that an Ethiopian high priest or Japanese Royal Family member don't watch Geography now? Huh, Barbs?!

It is said that another reason why no one excavated the Mausoleum of Qin Shihuang is that archaeologists have detected extremely strong mercury reactions in the soil around the tomb.

Barbs, your lively personality is what draws my eight year old daughter who has autism in. She absolutely loves this channel. And it's something we look forward to every night

Dude, are you gonna leave out the LITERAL RIVERS OF LIQUID MERCURY in Qin’s tomb?

The high mercury content in the surrounding soil also makes it very dangerous to explore.

Fiction: Here’s this heavily forbidden place. Remember it because the main cast is going to go there later in the story.
Real life: Here’s this heavily forbidden place. You can’t go there, and that’s final.

So, assuming the priest who guards the holy receptacle in Aksum is also not allowed to peek in, and assuming he's followed that rule, no one actually knows what's in that box and that's wild considering how long it's been in such a prominent place

North America’s largest cave art was found in north Alabama a couple of years ago. The location is not disclosed and probably never will be. I live in north AL too so it could be right around me and I’ll never see it.

The Green Zone in Baghdad came to mind, you can't really get close to the Swords of Qadisiyah. I passed by one of the entrances to the Green Zone and the guards there were ARMED TO THE TEETH

Hey Barbs,
I just want to thank you and the team for putting in so much effort into these videos. You are my go to channel in my geography class, you make our class so much more enjoyable, we learn so much from your videos. The intro has become basically a meme in our school, every-time it comes on, everyone starts singing it 😂. Keep doing what you are doing and I’ll be watching tomorrow at school.
