I learned years ago, to start someone on a bait cast reel. I started them with braided line, pull those backlashes right right out, doesn’t hurt the line, And Set drag as tight as you can get it. In case you don’t take your finger OFF the line when you set the hook.

And even if you set it up perfectly you still have a good chance of having a a backlash if anything unexpected happens such as the wind changing speed or direction.

I just recently bought one, and im having trouble every time i throw at some point the string backs and eventually turn into knots. Am i supposed to control the string with my thumb ? Or a different way ?

Bait casters are super simple if you think about it it’s just a big learning curve
