No spool tension, brakes up or down until no more backlashes. Best performance and distance possible. This is why Daiwa created the zero adjust spool tension knob.

Thank you bro. I’ve always liked bait casters but every time I casted I would get a backlash. All my friends have the other reels and they never have problems. They would tell me to get rid of it but I knew once I did some research I would be able to set it right. Again thanks!!

Do you have to hold the spool with your thumb to cast?

according to Daiwa you set the the spool tension so the spool has a very slight movement left to right and then never adjust it no matter the weight of the lure you have. You make all adjustments with the magnetic brake.

Got a free reel from a guy at work to learn and see if I want to get one. I got it down but the brakes doesn’t seem to make a difference when at the max or lowest setting. Is there something not working that would be causing this or do you not notice much difference.
