If you use rubber cement on the plug it slides easier. I would yank the tool out rather than slowly pull it out. Also remember to trim the ends flush with the tread. I have repaired dozens of flat tires over the years with zero problems. It blows me away when people buy a new tire because of a tiny hole that can be fixed

I've helped a few guys out on the side of the road with punctures as well as myself on one occasion. Great easy to follow vid Tim. All the very best from England.U.K.

Hi Tim, a couple of things I'd like to mention: keeping the tire inflated some (with a compressor/pump) helps stopping the tire 'collapsing' inwards when reaming and plugging.
Also the rope plugging tool is actually split at the end point (at least mine is; yours may differ?) which means it doesn't cut the plug, it just slips over it. Using a flat blade driver to open it up makes putting the rope into the tool very easy as you don't have to drag it all the way through. Looking forward to your next video! Cheers. 👍

I have never done this before.

My BMW mechanic advised me to make sure that when you "auger" out the hole with the tool that you follow the same direction as the screw/nail went in. Even if it went in at a weird angle. If you go in at a different angle it could cause the tire to fail again, beyond repair. Thanks for the video!

Nice & concise. Great topic Tim.. If the tire has air, Id recommend getting the plug ready to go before pulling the nail out.

The best part is you're back, & this video got lots of good comments . Not all tools cut the plug, some are split at the end, some not.Tire patch glue really helps, we would push it in like you did, & then pull back till it came back through (except dipped in glue), & then just cut it off . The result was you ended up with 4 layers in the hole. Done hundreds of car tires, & if you ever took them off for any reason you could add a patch .It also gives you more of a chance to inspect just how bad the hole is ..Keep the videos coming !

Excellent Instructional video!

I learned this valuable skill by necessity about 20yrs ago Overlanding Baja in a 4x4.

It’s way easier to ream the hole as well as pull the rope plug through the needle if you lubricate both with rubber cement. Make sure you clean the rubber cement off both tools before you put them away. FYI.

Thanks for the tips...I will need to buy a repair kit & pump...so far I have been lucky, no flats...I know, I shouldn't have said that as now I will surely get a flat...lol.

I bought a fancy plug kit that inserts a mushroom head rubber plug into your tire and seals it from inside, blah blah blah. It's junk!! I salvaged the compressor from this expensive kit and bought a affordable rope plug kit you used. Still the best style Tim. Simple affordable and effective. Thanks for sharing, well done ehhh 🇨🇦 :-)

If you buy an electric pump make sure you got the correct connector and/or the clamps (Jumper cable style) to connect to the Battery my Dynaplug pump came with several connectors 12V, SAE and the clamps.
I like the dyna plug they are easier to use and not as messy as the rope style plugs, but I still carry the rope style ones, they can handle a larger puncture the Dyna plugs are good for small holes and you can put more than one in if you got a bigger puncture but there is a reason the rope style have been around so long and are popular they work.
One tip check your tire repair kit often the glue might be dried out, the plugs might be dried out as well.
I do carry a mountain bike tire pump as a backup (or even one of those CO2 cartridge kits) the electric pump might fail and of course it will do it when you are in a remote area with no cell service.
