Van Buren, Arkansas
On 10/17/2024, while patrolling I-40 east, I observed a gray Chrysler van with New Mexico license plate BPXS25 following too
closely to the vehicle in front of it. Once I observed the traffic violation, the vehicle quickly took the 5mm exit. At the bottom of
the exit ramp, I initiated my emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop. Once stopped, I observed the driver pick up his cell
phone and start recording. I then walked up to the vehicle where I encountered the male driver and informed him of the traffic
violation. I requested his driver’s license and insurance, but the driver became confrontational and would not provide his
information. He continued to be argumentative and started ranting over various accusations but pretended he was going to get
the information I requested. After several minutes of the male failing to provide me with his identification, I walked to the driver's
side door and advised the male he needed to unlock the door and step out of the vehicle. The male continued to stay on his
phone, so I advised him that I was going to break the window and remove him if he did not comply. After another brief moment
of him ranting, the male then exited the vehicle and was placed into custody without incident. The male was identified as James
Springer and was ultimately transported to CCADC.
Springer was charged with:
5-54-102: OBSTRUCTING GOVERNMENTAL OPERATIONS
27-16-303: DRIVING ON SUSPENDED LICENSE
27-51-305: FOLLOWING TOO CLOSELY
