My Dear Protestants,

Hard truth in John 6:

"The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” 53 Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. 54 Whoever eats[g] my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. 55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. 57 Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever.” 59 These things he said while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.

60 Then many of his disciples who were listening said, “This saying is hard; who can accept it?” 61 Since Jesus knew that his disciples were murmuring about this, he said to them, “Does this shock you? 62 What if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before?[i] 63 It is the spirit that gives life, while the flesh[j] is of no avail. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life. 64 But there are some of you who do not believe.” Jesus knew from the beginning the ones who would not believe and the one who would betray him. 65 And he said, “For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by my Father.”

66 As a result of this, many of his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him. 67 Jesus then said to the Twelve, “Do you also want to leave?” 68 Simon Peter answered him, “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God.” 70 Jesus answered them, “Did I not choose you twelve? Yet is not one of you a devil?” 71 He was referring to Judas, son of Simon the Iscariot; it was he who would betray him, one of the Twelve."

Hehehe, How many times have you heard Protestants ask: "Are you Catholic or Christian?" Great analysis as usual.

Finally, someone in the Catholic sphere has the stones to do this video! How refreshing to see you care enough about Protestants to “level up” to them about their questionable status as Christians. It’s about time for Catholic influencers to finally stage interventions with Protestants instead of meetings of the mutual admiration society.

Needed to be said - we want all our estranged brothers to get to heaven but they need to come home first. Ave Maria purisima.

The Protestants not only say that Mary is only the mother of Christ's body but not His divinity. They then denigrate Mary's status as his mother by saying that Jesus treated her disrespectfully.

When Christ sent out the 70, he said "whoever rejects you rejects Me, and whoever rejects Me rejects Him who sent me." Protestants reject the bishops given to us by Christ and therefore reject Christ and the Father.

"Christian is my name, and Catholic my surname. The one designates me, while the other makes me specific. Thus am I attested and set apart... When we are called Catholics it is by this appellation that our people are kept apart from any heretical name."

I was confirmed Palm Sunday so I am a baby Catholic but I’ve really enjoyed this channel through the last 2 years of catechesis.

I grew up Penecostal in the Bible belt. By the time I was a senior in high school, I had walked away from believing in the interpretation of God and the Bible given to me by the faith I grew up in. I never stopped believing in God, or in the infallibility of the Bible. Jesus has always been very real to me. This unwavering belief is not wholly of my self though, it was planted into my heart by my (very Pentecostal) mother. She is a woman who is filled with a love and joy that only comes from God. And she is also a very prayerful woman. There’s a much longer testimony to this, but I know that I would not have come to the fullness of my faith and into the Catholic Church without her prayer and devotion to her prayers over her children. I hope that eventually she will become Catholic, and experience the fullness of Christianity. But I would in part be denying God and the mysterious ways in which he works were I to say “she is not a Christian”. Some thing that I see missing in a lot of conversations like these is the discussion of the internal life and where the persons heart and will is directed. And I think that that’s half of it. Of course there’s the outward expression of faith which is only fully found in the Catholic Church, but all of those outward elements are expressions of the internal. My mothers internal life with God is very real. I don’t know where exactly you can draw the line in the sand theologically as to whether or not someone is a Christian in the most strict of senses. But I do know that God reveals himself to all who believe in Him whether you’re Catholic protestant or completely religiously homeless and have no faith background. I pray my mother becomes Catholic, but I also know she is in the hands of God because I have seen him work miracles of restoration and protection in our lives since I was a child.

Thank you Tim for always nailing out the hard theology of these issues and questions.

A true Christian must practice the sacred truths and teachings and precepts of the Catholic Church. Seems everyone’s comforted with their own truths 😢 Praying for conversion of poor sinners - Our Lady of Fatima. Pray for us 🙏

This is a very dangerous game to be playing, and people will be held to account for wounding each other regarding theology, doctrine and who is a true Christian or not.

We know what we know, and understand what we understand, more often than not based on how we have been educated religiously and culturally. Most modern protestants are not like Luther, who was a catholic monk, and so cannot be judged by the same standard and level of knowledge as him.

Only those who love God and do his will and love neighbor as themselves are true Christians.

Some Christians may have a misunderstanding of scripture, but it doesn't necessarily follow they're not Christian.

Thank you for this apologetics episode. What a great tool to help us speak to Protestants in a loving albeit technical way. We're all called to bring others to Christ but it's not easy to explain to Protestants why should learn about Catholicism. Learn what you're protesting against! In many cases, they don't know. In fact, even many Catholics don't know they are living like Protestants if they don't live a sacramental life.
