My Top Gear Picks

In this video I share with you a few tips for buying the perfect beginner snowboard. The first tip is to find a beginner snowboard that is low on the price scale. The next tip is to find a beginner snowboard that has a cam-rock profile. I explain plainly what this means in the video. You also want to look for a beginner snowboard that has a soft flex and has a top sheet that you like. I think if you find a beginner snowboard with these attributes you'll be set for you first season of snowboarding!

1st timers, i always suggest rental. Just get the feel of the equipments (flex etc), take note of your rental gear model(board, binding, boot), and later after you rode n get the feel of it, go google the gear specs. From there you already have a reference on board flex feel, width and lenght for control, and the binding support pads.
Now you can go and search your ideal setup if you want the same flex, sizing, feel or something different 👍.

/What is nice feel for someone else may not be nice match for you. So asking someone what board you should get is not a good idea, but its a good suggestion for you to DEMO first(exact model or close enough identical profile) before you buy.
Kev here is suggesting Capita Horoscope kind of profile. So its a good start what you should look to demo/rent to try 👍

I'd recommend an unsold 2018 Salomon Pulse. Good board, and you can find year-old models for $200. Good on park and groomers.

I was super lucky this off season and managed to pick up a Burton Instigator with Burtons new Freestyle bindings both at half price! Super excited to get out and try them out!

Got the Capita Horrorscope 16/17 version. I can’t fault it. One great thing about it is that the base seems to last forever without the drying up at the edges. Great board! 👍

I bought the 2019 GNU carbon credit, great beginner board. Based of TJ’s recommendation. TJ has a more reviewed Top 5 for beginner boards including this one!

Great, I started with grouse mountain rent equip with boots for $200. It's a Rocker and I love rockers for park cause they are forgiving and I ride my wife's Camber (same store and price) for L and XL jumps. For me it's easier to stop the rotation of a 360/540 on a camber board when sending on big jumps.

Capita, In my experience, is the best brand with the most high end technologies for snowboards. Thanks Kevin for this awesome tip guide for beginner boards!

First, I love your channel! Second, I definitely consider myself a beginner with the ability to quickly advanced to an intermediate rider. I currently have a Rossi Circuit Wide 166. I'm 6'2 240lb. What boards would you suggest that will allow someone with most basic skills the ability to grow into a snowboard rather than grow out of. With my current board I feel as though it's not as responsive as I would prefer.

Hi Kevin. I'm looking for a beginner board for my wife first time snowboarding. Here in Europe I found some on special offer from the last season in her height / weight range. Salomon Wonder ($255), Burton Stylus ($240), Salomon Lotus ($220). Should I get an absolute beginner board like Lotus or Stylus or the Wonder? I like the sintered base and other cool features on Wonder which is just a bit stiffer directional twin. I'm sure it will be a great board for progression but maybe too aggressive for the first day out? What do you think.

Hello Kevin always riding rentals how do you know how much of an angle for positive and negative to set up new bindings on you board? Also how far apart from your should the bindings be on your board? I'm similar in height about 6'3" so curious to know what yours is set at. I love all your videos and seen almost every one. Keep up the good work!

When it comes to those soft beginner snowboards, is it possible to get a good carving run with them, i mean can you learn carving or you need to buy something stiffer and more prone to carving?
