For those who can't, maybe you can try shutdown, unplugging and cleaning the adapter, then plugging it back in, And turn it back on

in my experience, i have to plugin it to usb 3.0/3.1 (color blue) since my flash drive is 3.1 whenever i plugged it into usb 2.0(color black), that error appears. You might consider the type of flashdrive you are plugging in.

I have very unusual problem. My lenovo laptopt have 2 normal usb ports and it does not recognise any external usb keyboard or mouse. It was working before and just one day it stoped. it produce sound when i plug in but no response after and in device manager it says unknown USB device (device Descriptor request failed) more it wont recognise any usb stick 2.0. however it does recognise 3.0 usb sticks without any problem. I tried every solution from this video with no luck also i tried uninstaling every usb driver that i had with no luck

I did 2 things and my guess is the second thing did the job. I disabled the usb suspend option in advanced power plan options but what I think did it was simple, go to device manager and the USB settings, you'll see the usual usb root etc but you'll a line with the "unknown device device descriptor request failed. I simply disabled that line e.g right click and disable. USB ports immediately worked fine. This must be a controller/software issue, because clearly the ports work fine, it's just some software or driver causing issues. I do not agree with keeping up to date, if works, don't change it, windows updates are a nightmare now, trying to update bios etc and causing major issues.

Pretty generic advice that doesn't fix the issue.
