2025 Hyundai Inster Unveiled - The Tiny EV Packed with Big Features
Get ready to meet the adorable new electric vehicle from Hyundai that's capturing hearts worldwide – the Inster! Unveiled at the 2024 Busan auto show, the Hyundai Inster is a subcompact electric vehicle that's both charming and eco-friendly. Though it won’t be available in the U.S., its debut is causing quite a buzz in other markets.
The Inster is notably tiny, measuring 150.6 inches in length, making it slightly shorter than a Mitsubishi Mirage. Its design is inspired by the gas-powered Casper crossover, available only in South Korea, but with a slightly longer body and wheelbase. The front of the Inster features large round headlights set in a black-masked section of the bumper, alongside robotic pixelated running lights and a Hyundai badge. The car also sports a two-tone paint job with a contrasting black roof, adding to its playful appearance.
Inside, the Inster is equipped with modern amenities, including a 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a touchscreen of the same size. Physical controls are present on the center console, along with a wireless charging pad. All seats in the Inster can be folded flat, and optional features include a front bench seat, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. The LED ambient lighting can be adjusted to 64 different colors, and sustainable materials are used throughout the interior, such as recycled plastic bottles.
The Inster's powertrain includes a standard 42.0-kilowatt-hour battery, with an optional upgrade to a 49.0-kilowatt-hour Long-Range battery. The single electric motor produces 95 horsepower in the base model and 113 horsepower in the Long-Range version, both delivering 108 pound-feet of torque. Hyundai claims the Long-Range model can achieve 221 miles of range on the European WLTP test cycle. Fast-charging capabilities allow the Inster to go from 10 to 80 percent charge in about 30 minutes using a 120-kilowatt DC fast charger. It also has an 11.0-kilowatt onboard charger and an optional heat pump.
Additionally, the Inster can power external devices with 110-volt and 220-volt outlets, making it versatile for various uses. Safety features are abundant, with a full suite of driver assistance systems included. The Inster is set to launch in South Korea this summer, followed by releases in Europe, the Middle East, and the rest of Asia. Hyundai also plans to introduce the Inster Cross, a rugged, outdoor-focused version of the car.
