This tiny car shocked me!

This is the Hyundai Inster!

It’s an all-new compact electric car that’s meant to rival similar small EVs like the Citroen EC3! It looks super quirky, but is it more style over substance? Mat’s about to find out.

When it comes to the design, the Inster certainly looks unique! Up front there’s a distinctive design with some of the wildest hazard lights we’ve seen on any car. Along the side, the cuteness & boxy design is turned up to 10, and we think it looks pretty smart with the roof bars added. Unfortunately, though, these aren’t available on the entry-level car! Around the back, there’s a unique tail light design, and when the brake is applied they become some of the brightest rear lights we’ve ever seen!

The interior has a 1990s vibe, with quite a bit of plastic throughout the cabin. However, there’s still quite a lot of stand-out and impressive tech! There’s a big infotainment screen and a digital dial display. The latter even throws up camera displays when the indicators are used. The whole interior is fairly well-built, and the two-tone effect on the seats is pretty nice. The rear seats also come with lots of adjustment - pretty impressive for such a small car!

There are two battery and motor combinations available. The first is the standard range, which has a single motor that delivers 97hp and a claimed range of 203 miles, while there’s also a Long Range available. This also has a single motor, but it can put down 115hp and has a claimed range of 229 miles.

So is the Inster the must-have small EV? Or would you choose the EC3 instead? Let us know in the comments!

The seat design and flexibility in this car is genius

Basically a no-BS, down to earth car. No gimmicks, practicality everywhere and cute styling. They’ve nailed it, whereas other manufacturers have completely lost their way in superficiality -ehem, Audi and their obsession with light shows-. Good for Hyundai, I hope others take note.

Props to the design team at Hyundai and the retro sci-fi cocaine they have been snorting

i would pick 15" wheels if it was a paid option, i don't get why people would pick style over comfort on a car like that.

The price in Korea is between £15, 400 and £20, 000. It is between £12, 000 and £16, 300 when government subsidies are included.
Cars are really expensive in the UK

this car SCREAMS 90s! and i'm all here for it. Only the exterior and the few modern features in the car (like the digital dash and modern steering wheel) gives away that it's an modern car, otherwise you could convince me this is an 90s car. The exterior is still really quirky like a 90s car, i love it.

those adjustable backseats are mind blowing. i wish i had that in my S3. that gives soo much more flexibility.

Not an electric car guy but one thing I noticed: That car has physical buttons in the interior. The one thing that bothers me most with many electric and newer cars in general, is that they use touch screen buttons so much now

Glad to see this car in carwow!
Inster is called 'Casper' in home country Korea, but I think the name 'Casper' has a problem with copyright. Also only in Korea, there is a shorter and petrol engine version of it, which has 1.0L NA or turbo engine and 4-speed gearbox.

I like that it has a real power outlet. Even if I won’t use it often, it’s great to have. Most manufacturers still do not provide this feature.

I love this car. not for 26k but as soon as it will be 16k in 18 months I may finally have a replacement for my i3. 360cameras, blind spot cameras, ventilated seats, what not to love!

Hyundai are probably the only company to figure out how to make their cars look interesting with modern designs

Somehow it reminds me of 90’s, early 2000’s small cars. Daewoo Tiko, Corsa, ….nice car, it has passion, a soul!

Thanks carwow for finally understanding that we want those kind of reviews instead of drag races, really.
