Blender Help: Making a Smooth Cylinder -- FINALLY!!!

It's actually pretty easy to do, but not easy to guess at how it's done. Well, I couldn't really find any videos on this. Probably are many, but I missed them for like a half-hour.

Anyway, if you want a smooth cylinder, it's not hard, but you need a few modifiers in place, and in the right order!!!

after lots of other "tutorials" this is the first that actually solved what i wanted. Legend buddy!!

Well actually if you go to "object data properties" (green triangle) and open the "Normals" tab there'll be the "Auto Smooth" check box. Click it and voila, "Shade Smooth" works properly. By default there's a 30 degree angle, but you obviously can change it. Everything sharper then that won't be smoothed.

Also, if you want sharp corner, but it's less then 30 degree (or whatever you set), you can select edge you want sharp (in edit mode of course), open the "edge context menu" (Right mouse button by default (edge select mode should be chosen, otherwise it'll be either "vertex context menu" or "face context menu" (if second then I don't even understand how the heck you selected an edge))) and select "mark sharp" (or "clear sharp" for reverse). For that working you have to have "auto smooth" turned on.

Edge Split is legacy and should not be used going forward. You use auto smooth and simply mark edges sharp if needed in edit mode. It works for ALL game engines provided you set the export options properly. Any video mentioning Edge Split is outdated and people keep propagating this crap when they plagiarize their work from other outdated videos.

I was about to doubt my sanity - not just because of the cylinder smoothing, but because of the muffled background music. I was listening to a Classic Dubstep Mix before this, and the bassline in the background of this video sounded almost like an exact continuation of that mix.

Thanks for the Edge Split tip. I made a table with a warped cylinder, and it kept looking like a bunch of panels until this.
