My mother was on a carnival ship when hurricane Irma was rolling into Florida and their ship was originally headed for some of the islands in the Caribbean below Florida and their ship was diverted to Mexico, on the way they were getting hit by 15-20 foot waves, luckily made it to Mexico. After 4 days of sitting and waiting to head back to Florida the captain realized he couldn’t go back to Florida due to the hurricane, ended up taking the ship to Louisiana and docking it there. The VERY DAY they left Mexico, there was an 8.1 magnitude earthquake a few miles from where my mother was in Mexico. AND to cap it all off, Irma blew a tree over and through the roof on her house and DESTROYED the living room where she more than likely would have been sitting. I’m still waiting for her to win the lottery. Lol

Off coast of Florida a man on board had a heart attack and instead of calling in a bird the captain turned the ship around and plowed right through a storm to return to port at a much higher speed than normal. It was by far the worst experience on a ship I’ve ever had. The man was returned soon enough to receive the necessary medical care and saved his life so it was all worth it in the end.

Bermuda cruise in 2019... the first night was ROUGH! You could feel everytime we hit a huge swell. The entire ship would shake (Carnival Breeze)... I honestly was waiting for alarms to sound to let us know we needed to make our way to a lifeboat or something 😅
Husband kept grabbing me while we were *trying* to fall asleep because it was that bad... I told him, "please stop grabbing me... if the ship goes down, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it, right now we HAVE to try to sleep!"
Didn't fall asleep until 4am!
People on lower decks said their lights were falling out of the ceiling!

Still didn't ruin my cruising experience! I love cruising!

Cruise ships are meant for leisure so they can be late and steer around storms. Ocean liners have to go straight through them since they are on a tight schedule and the earlier they are to the port the better. Ocean liners are built in the bow to cut through the seas in blue water. Cruises are designed to meander through shallower seas with a bow not designed for slicing through waves so that is the reason why swell is extremely noticeable on crusises.

Plus cruise ships are mainly the destination so you don't have to worry much about getting late on going to point B. Unlike ocean liners that are specifically built to cross rough seas to get to point B quickly.

I have been caught in a storm on a cruise in the Mediterranean. The ship was rocking to the point of people stumbling around like they are drunk. And the drunk people that were already stumbling around started walking straight again 😂

These YouTube channels really help out the cruise lines. I used to never want to go. Now I’m thinking about it. Lol

I was on the Disney Dream this past year, and it was around the time of the hurricane in the Bahamas area. Our captain did a great job with keeping us clear of the storm, even though we had to had many more days at sea.

Was on the Carnival Sunshine in January when our only stop was supposed to be Nassau Bahamas. weather was so rough we never made it. The captain did a great job with keeping everyone safe and informed. We got a 50% off our next booking with carnival and total room credit back for the day which was free beer money.

I’ve been in a storm and loved it. I was enjoying the rocking while some people were throwing up in the rubbish bins around the ship 😂🤷🏽‍♀️

I love old ships like the Titanic. Then I see a ship like this and am just blown away by how far ship design has come in such a relatively short time.

Last cruise we went on in end of April, we saw waterspouts, which looks like a tornado on the water, one of them was literally about 50 feet from us, I was crazy nervous, and wondering why the captain and crew weren’t acknowledging it, turns out they aren’t as scary as they look

We were caught in a storm coming back from Bermuda. It was so bad that all shows and activities were cancelled. You couldn’t walk a straight line. At dinner we had windows and saw the waves smashing into the ship. People were screaming and praying. It was really bad and scary.

Took a cruise years ago on one of the smaller ships of Holland America cruise lines from Alaska to VancouverBC, via the inside passage.

It really matters when you go. We went in late September, one of the last voyages of the season.

We hit a storm that had the seas at 40 ft swells. The cruise ship was riding up the swells, then hammering back down, for about 12 hours. Rough weather made us miss 2 of the 3 scheduled stops.

@ship_facts My family was on a Caribbean Cruise, and we successfully outran a hurricane! I remember my mom explaining what a hurricane was to some young adults because they thought a hurricane was like a tornado.

Thankfully, we were on our last night aboard the Carnival Inspiration. We were staying in a dirt cheap cabin close to the lowest deck, and the ship rocked me to sleep. I could actually feel it pitching!

We got rained on as we practically ran to breakfast. It was POURING DOWN RAIN!

We made it home with no other issues.

Few years ago we did Disneys Castaway Island in the Bahamas, and honest to God thunder hit the top of the boat and we hit a storm. It was bad but when I asked the officer on the deck when the thunder hit if we were safe, he looked unfazed and said “this is the captain who got us through xyz storm” which was a nasty storm a year or two before that made the news with all the videos from passengers. So I told my kids if that officer isn’t shitting his pants right now neither should we be. 😝

The last one you said was something that I experienced, I was onboard the Carnival Panorama with my family and we got into rough weather after reaching the third port. They decided to instead of going to our next intended port we’d go to another one. Eventually though the other port got cancelled as well and we were sailing until we got back to the port.

On our last cruise around the Caribbean, it was sunny and clear skies for the whole week. Lounging on the sundeck felt good.

Story-

When I was 10, not that long ago. Im 12 now. Me and my dad and my 8 yr old brother rented a boat for a day. It was about a 23 footer. All was well, we launched it, and was just going through the channel. Jumping off the sandbar, etc. Then a storm rolled in without warning and it started raining. I took the wheel. Remember I’m 10. (I knew how to drive a boat alr) My brother spilled Orange Fanta ALL over himself💀. So I slowed down and my dad grabbed him and dipped him in the water🤣. Then we just drove away from the storm.😂 I will never forget this.
