I'm a tip at the end as well. But I do something additional! I have several $5 bills and walk around the ship at the end of the cruise and give a $5 tip to random crew doing jobs such as mopping, vacuuming and polishing to thank them for their part in making my cruise enjoyable. I don't think they get the recognition they deserve.

I definitely tip extra to my cabin steward at the beginning and at the end of the cruise. Many years ago, I worked on the cruise ships and I know how hard they work and what their living conditions are. Many have to share an inside cabin with up to 3 others. Their contracts can be anywhere from 6-10 months, working split shifts 7 days a week. They have very little time to go ashore and can't enjoy the freedom that the passengers can, but still are always cheerful and friendly. I know I pay service charges and it's not compulsory to tip extra, but if I am paying $3k+ for a cruise, then an extra $40 isn't going to break the bank, but if all passengers did this it would make a big difference to the crew member.

If you use the safe, leave ONE shoe in there with your valuables. Packing up the unmarked shoe reminds you to get stuff out of safe. 😉

My parents cleaned a hotel room in their early 30’s. They would get so happy every time someone left them a tip, even if it was 50 cents. I vividly remember the joy on their faces. So if you can tip, please do.

Nice video. Placing the valuables in the safe as soon as possible is always a good idea, but with one caveat: although it might sound obvious, set up the safe and test it first before leaving anything inside it. Only after you manage to lock and unlock the safe while it is still empty you should proceed to storing your belongings. This tip helped me once in a Nile cruise.

I always cut up a sponge, put dish soap and let it dry. Bring them along once dry to clean a tumbler

I ask for a sheet to cover the sofa. I also put the decorative throw pillows in the closet and request to not bring them out again for the remainder of our cruise. They never wash those. Always wipe down all surfaces to include the inside of the drawers and the hangers in the closet.

Was changing into clothes after a shower when my cabin door opened (few mo ago)! It was a steward but not the one assigned to my stateroom. The guy yelled, "So Sorry" and hustled out. No knock first! He apologized profusely the next morning when he saw me heading out, stating he was at the wrong room. Moral to the story is KEEP THE DO NOT DISTURB SIGN on the cabin door if you need privacy.

Toilet spray or poo-pori spray is a must. Given the size of the eoom and how enclosed everything is, it comes in handy.

If the mini fridge is behind a cabinet door, get a wash cloth or hand towel out of the bathroom and drape it over the cabinet door so it does not close completely. The fridge will get cooler.

I give a HUGE tip on the first day. It insures careful service because they know I care and appreciate their efforts. These people work 6-7 days a week for months at a time. Appreciate what they do for you!

I always tidy my room/clothes before leaving. It makes life easier for the housekeeping and they start to like you during your stay as they see you as a considerate & makes their work easier!

Great tips - instead of the motion sensor nightlight - I recommend battery operated tea lights. We brought on for our 21 day cruise and the one tea light we used was still working at the end of the cruise. We placed one in the bathroom, turning it on before bed and off in the morning.

We always bring a travel sized Lysol spray, and travel size Lysol wipes when we cruise. Another thing we always bring is a bottle of hand soap. We hate having to use the little bar they provide when we wash our hands in our cabin. Bringing our own bottle of hand soap makes it so much more convenient.

Tipping up front: in many of the countries the cabin attendants come from tipping up front is the expected norm. So a $20 up front sets the tone, once they know your appreciative and generous they go one mile more then normal.

We did an Alaskan cruise that included a land tour. I packed a shoe organizer that hangs from the door. It worked great for cosmetics, soap, shampoo, sunblock, bug spray, first aid kit, etc, all those little things that hang out on the counter in the bathroom. It seems there never enough counter space in cabins. Anyways during the land tour we were changing hotels every couple of nights. This made it easy to roll up the organizer and stick in the suitcase . When we got to the next hotel, I could just unroll it and hang up. It saved lots of time.

Something we do right away in hotels (and will do on our cruise) is to turn down the corner of the bed sheet and look for bed bugs or rust-colored spots that show they were there.😯 My kids even ask if I checked for bugs before they sit on the bed. It's habit now, I guess. We never lay suitcases directly on the bed either.

I also pack my hanging clothes on the hangers as i take them out of my closet. I always take a large suitcase so its easy to just fold the clothes in half still on hanger. Makes unpacking fast and easy and no need to ask for hangers
