What are some things you do to get unstuck? (In anything: language learning, being creative, being productive, etc.)

You seem to be one of those people that can pick up a language very easily. I wish I could be like that. I love how effortless you make language learning appear.

First kitchen I cooked in, my trainer and now friend taught me spanish. She learned it all from working in kitchens for over 10 years, and she was excited shen she learned I want to do the same. All we did was first, she would answer all of my questions and translate anything I asked her to. Second, whatever I would day while we were cooking on the line (for example: “I need fries, ” or “Burger with no cheese” stuff like that), she would echo the sentence back to me in spanish, ans then I would have to say it back to her to show that I heard her.
After a year, I left and worked somewhere else with no spanish speakers so I lost a lot of what I learned, but going to uni soon and watching your language journey, I have started to teach myself spanish. It has not been easy though, I much prefer having another person to work with, but I am making progress which excites me!

I will be 65 in May and just started learning Spanish. I started out knowing maybe 20 words and 10 of them were numbers. I don't have the retention that I had when I was younger but I work every day and know that it takes me a bit longer to catch on to the little nuances of a language. I wanted to learn Spanish in particular to help make the world just a little bit smaller.

I don’t know why I didn’t think to watch others learning the language! I started trying to learn Japanese late 2019/early 2020 and the end of last year got hit with the burn out. 😁

Very cool! I self taught myself some spanish in 2020 and haven't picked it up again. I took 5 years of German and really feel like I lost most of what I know. When I try to think of sentences in german, I either end up inserting english or spanish words! lol. I think if I ever pick it up again I'll have to stick w/ one language for my brain's sake. Do you know any youtubers that talk about learning to speak languages w/ accents? I had to have speech therapy as a kid for english, and learning german I almost feel like I'm having to relearn how to speak properly on top of the language itself!

I love your language learning videos. I speak English, French and Spanish and am learning Ukrainian. Don’t you find that learning one language at once is too confusing? I can’t imaging learning Spanish and Italian at once. They are too similar! I totally know what you mean by getting stuck. Some days the language just flows and some days nothing makes sense. I find that rest is super important, and it’s better to do a few minutes consistently every day than one long study session per week. You need time to let things percolate!
