Nexus 5 Why Root? - Androidizen

Nexus 5, why should you root your Nexus 5? Well the answer is simple - so you can have full control of your device and fix / tweak your Nexus 5 to perform just as you would like it to, including fixing things that Google chose to do one way but would be better done our way!

We don't cover how to root the Nexus 5 in this video but we do show you some of the things you can do once your Nexus 5 is rooted.

In the past, I always rooted my devices to remove the bloatware and increase performance. On my Nexus 5, straight from Google Play, I really have no need to do this. It performs incredibly well and there is no bloat to remove... I suppose it's nice that I don't feel the need to root for once.

Love the video and all the relevant information and you've confined my thoughts not to root- for me personally the Nexus 5 handles incredibly well with anything I throw at it and to be honest I think rooting for me would be a bit of a waste of my time, thanks anyway though.

I'm sure you're aware, but some people may not be, but helium doesn't require root access for full functionality. You do have to plug it into a pc and use adb (there's also an app that does it automatically written by clockwork mod, the helium dev) to alter settings to allow access.

I'm underclocking my Nexus 5 and undervolting to the suggested analog. The battery is ridiculously good and performance is free of android lag. Franco.kernel seems to be the standard and it works for me.

Root on N5 for me: Greenify crap coded apps like Facebook, audio mod, Xposed + Gravitybox, some extra Tasker options... What else...

If I'm honest Ive been rooting phones for years now but i just cant be bothered with the hassle. The main reason i use to root is for custom roms to install stock android(cyanogenmod). Now with a nexus 5 i cant see much point. I do still like to know at least that I can do it but I cant be asked with the hassle.

The biggest thing for me is the CPU underclocking, if i want the battery life to be longer i can always reduce the power of that insane fast Snapdragon 800 CPU if i want to

I used to make profiles using this tool to lower the speed of the processor for when i turn off the screen and put it on normal speed when i turn it on, this move made my Nexus4 to stay up for 4 days without charging. while i keep my Data Traffic on at 2G and 3G all the time and while opening Facebook and Instagram, listen to music and overclock it to play games. Guys i managed to stay at school for 7 hours while keeping D.Traffic on at 2G and open it once in a while for 10 minutes and i managed to only consume about 10% of the 100% battery. And when i keep the D.Traffic off in 7 i consumed 2% only..But i N4 screen got cracked now

If i root my Nexus 5 and stay on stock rom with a custom kernel, would i still receive updates from google? And what kernel do you guys think is good for battery life and performance?

Am I the only one that finds this new comment style messy? Is there a way to continue watching a video while commenting without it stopping?

Totally off topic, I know.

Ive just sold my iphone 5 and am purchasing a Nexus 5 next week. This will be the first time I have ever owned an android phone! I was an avid jailbreaker on Ios so am keen to learn how to root an android phone and tweak the hell out of it! I could do with some tips on which are the best tools and programmes to use for the job as I dont want to mess it up first go! Any help would be much appreciated! :)

I have always rooted my previous phones as I always liked stock android ROMs like super nexus but now I have a nexus 5 I'm not in any rush to root my phone. I suppose for better battery life its worth it alone.
