Refrain from negotiating. They can't do anything or damage your credit report. After the bill has been sold, you no longer owe anything to a collecting agency company because of HIPPA.

If I negotiate for less than what’s owed, will the difference still be reported to IRS where I’ll be taxed on it? And will it stay on my credit report as negotiated for less?

Received a letter from a collections company but the medical bill was on a payment plan with the creditor. Have the letter where the bill was added to a previous bill and the amount i would pay each month. Now I'm suprised as i thought this was automatic. It wasnt until I received the letter I checked and my last payment was in April, received a collections in June but didnt receive a letter from the creditor. Sent a debt validation letter and they sent me a letter with dates and codes of service. Need some advice as to what to do next? Should I send my letter of agreement with the original creditor and ask for proof where they have authority to collect on this debt? Awaiting your response.
