An incredibly original movie rich in story telling. You will never second guess the plot which is what I expect I'm an A24 film. JLD deserves an Iscar nod for this. Simply tremendous.

I think we have to break down the film in 3 major parts.

Part 1: Introduction of Death.
While People are near to die, the Parrot comes close to them. Due to being dirty and being hated by mankind, he doesn’t feel any empathy towards the dying soul. He lets them talk their last words, but he doesn’t really care. He just does his job.

Part 2: Death meets Tuesday or Tuesday meets Death.

While most people hated Death, Tuesday was some kind of open hearted towards him. She knew who he is and what hes bringing and what its meaning for her. Death on the other hand experiences something he never did before. Silence. Nothing but Silence in his head. After all those years of only hearing dying souls he finally hears birds, a radio and tuesday. She later offers him to bath himself, being a symbolistic „I don‘t hate you, i accept you“. Death then allows Tuesday to call her mom, which doesn‘t pick up the phone. Instead of being cold harted and ending tuesday‘s life, he allows her to see her mom one last time. He spends time with her and she learns some things about Death and his encounter with some prominentes; Queen Elizabeth I, Joseph Stalin (the Asshole) and Jesus (who he respects deeply).

Part 3; The slow acceptance of the mom

The mother of Tuesday finally arrives and she spend some time with each other. Death gave Tuesday the duty to tell her mom that there will be no Tomorrow. When the mom didn‘t believed it and she insulted tuesday, Death, after the pleasing of Tuesday, told the Mom that its true. After that, the mom hunts and „kills“ Death. Since Death can‘t die as long as there is life, he lives inside the Mother. (little bit skipping now) As the Mom and Death finally agree, that its best for Tuesday to die and that she suffers in pain but won‘t show it, the Mother assures Tuesday, that she will be alright after her death. Death allows Tuesday and the Mother to cuddle in Tuesday‘s bed, while death is behind tuesday (my personal thought is, that death wanted tuesday to have a peacful moment and not being scared of the deaths last and deadly move) After some cuddling, death whispered a little „Hmmm“ and the mom knew what was next to come. Death did his wing move and with that, Tuesday‘s life ended. But not the movie.

Epilogue; After Tuesday‘s death, we see how Zara‘s life is more and more chaotic and unstructured. Giving a damn about her life, only being in grief because of tuesdays death. Eventually, after she said she wanted to die, Death appears in her room, confronting her with her promise to tuesday and, indirectly, to him. They talk about god and the afterlife. Death first isn‘t willed to answer any of that but when he finally realises that its the last time for a while he sees Zara, he tells her 2 things. God isn‘t what we people think he is and the afterlife isn‘t what we believe it is. Its more the memories of others that keeps us alive. We won‘t see each other after Death. But that is also how we won‘t be forgotten. Death then imitates the promise Zara did to Tuesday on her last day on earth. Zara told Death that he is a cunt (i watched it in german and there she said „Wichser“ which is „Cunt“) and death grinds a bit and then he flies off.

What wants the movie to tell us?

I think, the movie wants to tell us, that Death is inevitable, no matter how hard you fight him. The fight of Zara vs death can be a embodiment of the fight Doctor or any Lifeguard vs Death. Death can lose battles, but he will always win the war. It also shows that Death is nothing to fear about. Its totally normal and its the only thing in our life that is for sure. Also it shows perfectly how a sick person, which has one last wish (in tuesdays case, she wants to see or hear her mom) can fight against death. There are many cases of patients dying a few hours after their family visited them, or even dying when the family is there. Thats what Tuesday did and thats what Death allowed, giving him somewhat of a warm heart. Also the movie wants to show us, that death isn‘t painful for the ones that die, but for the rest of the beloved ones. He also shows, that we shouldn‘t mock death. Who know, maybe Death, if its impersonating as a Parrot or a Wolf (little Puss in Boots eastereg yay) is watching you right now, calculating if its your time yet or not. Don‘t give him a reason it is, and if its your time, welcome him and don‘t be afraid, easier said than done but you anyway can‘t win against him. Thats what i think the movie is and tells us☺️

Honestly Me and my boyfriend really loved it, It beautifully captures death and how people fear it I believe. I found all of the interactions entertaining and realistic.
I haven't cried during a movie like this in a long time.

If you could give death a personality, an ear, a mind, a body. How would it be?

I love the take introduced here, death's innevitability and its importance. How everyday life is only possible because of an intricate balance the world arrived at, and therein which death is key as is life.

I love that death is not powered up like Homelander but is instead a victim to some physics we dont understand, just like his astounding ability to hear a dying soul and to help it cross his body is but a vesel, a representation of the unknown. But it doesnt bother him so it doesnt bother me... He didnt hatch from an egg, nor feast on worms in a nest. He just was and is

I loved how the work leaves him weak, and after so long he has become filthy, asif to show how the world focuses more on life than death, how life has that sunkissed glow and death an azure tint.

I love that death found solace in Tuesday, he found silence and a place to wash off the dirt stuck onto his feathers. I love that he laughed and managed to feel life as opposed to being the mere subscriber_ watching it pass like a series on the TV set.

I love this movie from start to finish... I really connected with all the characters.

By far the most unique movie I seen all year. It hits in the emotions, cause we all go through some emotion in a time of grief. Instead of making Death some monster or a man. It's a bird. This movie took something most wouldn't fear and made it something to fear due to whom it is. It's Presence made you uncomfortable even in simple, and enjoying moments. Listening to a old rap song actually makes you smile for a moment. It give Death so many layers as a character. This movie does hit hard in the emotions tho. Overall a very good movie.

I enjoyed the artist interpretation on death and the dynamics of a strained relationship when dealing with the inevitable. It was both comical and emotional at times. I am glad movies like this are being made and wished it was given the promotion it deserves. I have been telling my friends about this movie

I watch a lot of movies and I’m open to strange/ bizarre concepts- but this went a little too far for me. I couldn’t get past the fact that JLD was cast as the mother- and it was never explained why she is American and everyone else is British. Then she ate the bird and… yikes. Too strange for me.

Helped me cope with my grief from the loss of my mom and my own purpose. This movie spoke to me. We are the afterlife.

A24 doesn't disappoint here and delivers a unique way of showing us the beauty of death itself.

Tuesday teaches the viewer why death is necessary in order to live.

At first, we see Zora (Julia Dreyfus) in denial with the idea of her daughter dying. But then, once she feels her pain and suffering (physically and emotionally), she realizes that maybe, sometimes we are a bit selfish and just think how WE are not ready to live a life without someone we love.
This is portrayed beautifully with the scene at the beach, where she finally understands and lets go.

Tuesday also demonstrates how we should embrace death and its timing. Closing with a powerful thought about how our memories of the people that aren’t with us anymore are what actually make their afterlife.

Amazingly creative and very astute about a mother dealing and not dealing with her daughter’s impending death. Death is portrayed by a giant parrot. Amazing special effects

The idea that Death is a parrot makes sense. They can live longer than any animal in the world. Only for 80 years but I like that.

(Spoilers) After watching the trailer, I thought this movie was going to be more about the tender relationship of a mother and daughter and how the mother could not accept the fact that her daughter was dying. I knew a bird was symbolizing death, but I did not realize what a big part the bird had in this movie. The beginning was strange, but set the scene. I liked the kind interactions between the girl and the bird, and the ending revealed how much of an impact the girl had on the bird (death). The scene where the mother horrifically beats the bird, burns him, and then eats him, was traumatizing! I know it was meant to show the lengths the mother would go to to stop her daughter from dying, but it was not fun to watch. I felt bad for the bird, who was only doing its job. This also showed how death is necessary. Without it, the balance of life is interrupted. It was shown how much the mother gave up for her daughter, but the daughter didn't even know how much the mother loved her because the mother avoided seeing her. I realize the mom was in denial, and she was getting rid of worldly goods to pay the medical bills. The other theme of letting loved ones go when they are in pain was also apparent. It was an odd film. I had free tickets, so I didn't waste any money, and it gave me something to do on a Sunday afternoon, but it was not the movie I was expecting. The trailer was very misleading in my opinion.

Julia was amazing. Needed some more joyful moments and character build though.

(2) That's the worst movie I've ever seen

Both folk had enlightened expressions and smiles on their faces. Me? I get it. I might have directed some of it differently, but I felt it was brilliant.

I just watched it and I loved it and cried a lot. I felt sorry for death.

This is an extremely odd and dark movie. I’m not even sure if my interpretation is correct but what I took from watching it is when the order of the universe is interrupted chaos ensues. The acting was good and the idea was good but the whole bird of death was hard to wrap my mind around. Not at all what I expected. Different.

I really enjoyed this movie. Not what I was expecting when I seen from the movie trailer but still highly original.

Idk if death was a talking parrot I would think the existance of a god sounds pretty reasonable after that. Maybe death just doesnt know cause he never dies. Death can see the lead up and the moment but never the after.

It is a bit too bizarre for me and seemed to swing from sci fi to religion. I didnt get the fairy tale aspect at all. However Julia Lewis Dreyfuss gave a superb performance. The dialogue also relayed some very meaningful messages about losing a loved one.
