I loved it :) great breakdown. The rule to not turn their backs was because if the watchers couldn’t see their faces they couldn’t mimic them

The rules were made by Madeline. She knew what The Watchers wanted and needed the most. So she made "rules" for the best viewing experience.

I knew something was up with Madeline because she knew the rules that weren’t posted anywhere so well. I didn’t think she was fae though.

I liked the fact that it wasn't too scary. I wouldn't call it horror. It's a story about betrayal, anger, revenge, guilt and redemption. Beautiful. I watched the movie because Dakota was in it. She didn't disappoint.

I was rooting for the bird the entire film and was glad that it survived.

No shade to anyone who worked hard on this movie, but for anyone who was disappointed in the film, the book by A.M. Shine is MUCH better. In fact, "Stay In The Light", the sequel to A.M. Shine's book "The Watchers" is coming out in October! Please give it a chance, as "The Watchers" is a PHENOMENAL book.

Don't turn your back to the glass: They can't see your face, thus they cannot mimic you.

Don't go near the burrows: Death? They lived down there, so going in kept you out of the light. You'd die.

Opening the door after sunset: Same as above. You are out of the light, thus you will die.

The rules were there to keep them "safe". Mina broke the rules because she was at a point in her life where she didn't care or was very brave, but she was extremely curious as well and wanted to know what the hell was going on. She wanted to leave too, so she broke the rules to figure it out. If she hadn't broken them, they would all be there still and they would have never found the hatch to the bunker below. I really enjoyed it. The ending when Madeline was in the house before the one character came home was surprising. I knew something was up with Madeline and I assumed she was one of them. I figured she was there to give them rules, so they would stay and the Watchers could observe them until the end. I thought she was in on it the whole time. Super fun movie in my opinion. Good to see Dakota Fanning back on screen.

just came from the movie theaters and this movie didn't dissapoint. I don't think it's too scary but the story is so interesting and the 3rd act of the movie really sold it for me

I never see them eating anything or drinking. Their hair looks so fresh all the time while they haven't bathe for months or more.

Shamalam's daughter. Wow she done a great job. Props to her, a masterclass in film making. It's rare to have movies with great pace, intrigue and resolution. It was a very satisfying thrill ride with a great twist. (Maybe I'm a cheap date...you're bar is very high).

her wearing a wig actually makes sense. Showing that perhaps since she hates herself so much, she tries to become and live as another person. Also gives a simile to the fairy creatures; who also transform themselves but literally achieve it, and want to become something else.

@5:37 great observation! when you said "like a train of eyes watching on and observing" that's beautiful man! I never would have thought of it like that. but it's true.

This movie is based on a book, so not quite an original story, but still interesting none the less.

Great movie. I think the watchers were meant to be how we see ourselves and trying to change for others. The glass box representing how we present our untrue selves to the world.

I knew it was Madeline, they gave it out the second day when Mina tells Danny “you believe everything Madeline tells you” . “Help me with the rope”. After he helps Mina and they get back in the coup right away Madeline knows everything Mina did and questions what Mina saw (how would Madeline know Mina saw something) .

The visuals (irish countryside), cinematography and Dakotas performance were good enough to lift the movie for me..

I just knew one of them was gonna be the changeling. My first suspect was the old lady after she told her first time meeting one and taking her form and she knew just what they wanted them to do. And also the scene where she explained about changlings mating with humans (Though there were some scenes to throw you off) And the second, the protagonist after recalling how she liked to change her appearance to meet guys in bars and her fondness for the caged bird (like how the watcher liked watching the humans and maybe she didn't know she was changling). Some parts were really stupid though, i would have found the bunker within hours out of boredom. And who and how the hell even built that bunker, and where were the changlings when they were building it? The old lady even said she went there by choice so why didn't they even think of questioning her after they found the bunker? The glass didn't even make sense as they seemed to easily crack it when they tried so how did the professor even manage to study them from inside that? And also like you said, how did that bird became a gps?
Maybe it's just me but I just couldn't ignore those missing details and mixing in fantasy with the horror was so weird. Visually stunning though and the irony of the watchers and the ones being watched was funny but

I don't understand why people hate shyamalan films so much. I actually really enjoyed this film, it definitely had it's writing flaws but it was creative and intriguing. cinematically astounding though, the color grading is 100% my taste when it comes to thriller
