Who is the new Intel Core 9 Ultra 285K for? Vs the Ryzen 9 9950x, Ryzen 7 7800X3D and i9-12900KS shows interesting results, just certainly NOT for gaming....

Chapters
00:00 The Ultra 9, what is it and weird early testing problems.
02:41 Test system setup, 8600mhz gear 2 cl40 memory timings used.
04:28 Gaming numbers begin, this is where the disaster starts, Age of Mythology 1080p.
05:54 Cyberpunk 2077, the i9-12900ks shows that intel really didn't like gamers with their ultra series.
06:27 Gears 5 another disaster for the Ultra 9
06:47 Hogwarts Legacy shows some improvements
07:02 Far Cry 6 shows decent performance.
07:09 Baldur's Gate 3
08:17 Gaming power consumption, a weird thing going on with the power spikes, that makes it so that CPU looks fine on the in game metrics but the max power from the wall is spiking, and we have to report that.
08:51 clockspeed discussion
9:43 Cinebench Power consumption, Cinebench R23, Geekbench 6, 7 Zip, Chaos and Vray benchmarks, Some promising numbers here.
11:17 temperatures were fine with a arctic 420mm cooler, though again it does run pretty high and hot as usual with an i9.
11:55 Conclusion, why I can't recommend the Ultra 9, at the very least for now, numerous reasons.

My feeling right now, disappointed :(. Why do you guys think Intel is falling so far behind AMD now?

And yet the prices for these chips in Australia are through the roof. Intel is on meth if they think these products are priced to sell.

$840 Canadian for the 285K.
That's a definite HARD pass.

It's basically the price of the b650 and 32gb plus 7800x3d bundle in OZ kinda crazy that they got such poor perf from the newer expensive node from TSMC

That Cyberpunk performance is nasty.. my 10850K is within scratching distance of the 285K there.

These CPUs are lower so next gen when we get back to same performance as the 12900k they can claim a big upgrade.

I think gamer nexus said that the power draw isn’t correct… and it’s actually higher than the system reports…

Stability feedback is what is missing from most tech reviewers. What's the point of a fast computer, if it crashes all the time leading to loss of work, or being unable to enjoy the game.

I'm still rocking an i7 8700 on my video editing rig and it's doing just fine. My daily-drive for online web-browsing is a third gen i5 and (thanks in part to Linux) it's also doing just fine. I'm not a gamer so I don't need to live on the cutting edge and suffer the bleed-out that often results.

I'm running out of Intel gens to SKIP, i felt awful smug about waiting on 13th/14th gen after that debacle... waiting patiently with my 12900K for a worthy successor...looks like I'll be waiting a WHILE.

I miss slot A Pentium III era. Moore's law was really kicking ass back then. True doubling every generation.
I guess it makes sense that generation leaps decrease over time, but greed is like sand in the gears of progress and this is not the way to make progress.

That freaking latency issue is killing me on 13600k. It happens unexpectedly and lasts for 2-3 seconds. Sometimes won't happen for days other times it happens twice day.

Frametime stability was Intel's strong suit with Alder and Raptor. The glue dip hits hard this generation. I wonder if the lack of HT played a role in it too. i9 9700K was also a mess when it came down to frametimes.

I'd love to see a 285K vs 14900K HT off (gloves off) comparison if possible.

Bought a 12600k/Mobo combo for $240 about 18 months ago, glad I did.

You're review was the best because you did more positively recognize the value in productivity. I won't buy it for that, but someone will. :)

It will be fun to see the price drop eventually.

These CPUs are not designed for consumers. They are designed for the server and data center market because that’s where the profit is. They care about stability, security and power consumption. These CPUs without hyper threading are more secure, the new architecture is more stable and the power consumption is much lower than the previous three generations. For a company with lots of servers, this CPU family is very attractive.

Imagine the outrage when AMD got a 5% improvement on average when releasing the new CPU generation, but Intel coming up SHORT in performance of a THREE GENERATION OLDER CPU 😂😂😂😂
