Gordon, are you doing okay? I haven't been as dialed into PC stuff this year because of personal stuff and haven't watched for a bit. We love you, man, <3 from North Carolina. Also appreciate the analysis on the new Intel processors.

Gordon, buddy, the problem with Cinebench is not the underlying software. The problem is that you only test it for 1 particular rendering assignment with 1 particular load for the CPU. Depending on that rendering assignment you might have a larger weight factor for certain instruction sets, floating point, integer, AVX or whatever...
People who state that you better use Blender, they state that because then you can easily use a lot of different workloads, it gives a much more wellrounded impression of how good the CPU is for rendering.

Before the launch, I was expecting Intel's CU9 285K to dominate completely the R9 9950X.
I'm glad for choosing AMD.

A well balanced review. I am on AM5 and AM4. 7800X3D w/Asus Tuf Gaming B650-E WiFi MB and 32GB 6000MT memory. It's my gaming machine with last gen 6900XT Sapphire Toxic gpu. My go to game is still The Division 2. I play 10+ hours a week on it. I have a 1440P/144Hz monitor. I get 144 avg fps on Ultra w/vsync 160 fps w/o vsync on default power settings, so I am good for gaming performance.

The next $2K I spend will NOT be on a gpu upgrade! If RDNA 4 is priced right and still gives a 30 to 40 fps uplift in rasterization while boosting RT in those games that require RT full time. I will consider a purchase. Right now my HTPC got a hand me down upgrade to a 5800X3D for transcoding 1080p over the air tv recordings. It's great 15 mins for a 90 min HD video to H.264. So I don't feel pressed to upgrade much this year really. The latest games don't impress me visually over the last two generations of games and their engines. The Sony ports for the most part are the most visually stunning games I've seen.

Is RT a game changer in visual lighting in games? I think not. Until we get PhotoRealistic games in REAL TIME. It's just a waste of gpu energy. IMO if you want better looking visuals in your games. Then buy a OLED monitor and call it a day. As for me, I'm going to buy an E-Bike and enjoy REAL Path Tracing lighting in the REAL world and get some exercise to boot. Thanks for the Team's hard work, and take care of yourself.

First, get well soon Gordon, that Intel looks good for my new computer, I work with DAWs on my systems for music creation, but the price isn't justified yet. Maybe in time the prices drop, and also from the CUDIMMS. But for my kind of work, Apple is cheaper at this moment. But if the price is dropping, I might build a system with Intel. It's a more flexible solution a PC.

Thanks Gordon :-) especially for the tone, given the strange situation of this launch.
