Breathe Less, Live Long [ISPO - Munich 2024]

A recording from my talk at Outdoor by ISPO Summer 2024 in Munich, Germany.

When ISPO asked me to speak I decided to choose something close to my heart and my purpose which is to encourage everyone to enjoy and explore the outdoors for as long as they can.

I spoke about the relationship between low respiratory rates and longer lifespans in the animal kingdom, and how unlike other animals, humans have a unique ability to be able to choose to breathe less.

I aimed the simplify the basic principles from @oxygenadvantage with respect to how you can train to improve your breathing at rest or during hiking/skiing/climbing.

It’s a pretty quick and straight to the point presentation with some theory and the occasional meme.

I hope you enjoyed it! If you would like to develop a daily breathing practise I can highly recommend Oxygen Advantage, which I am advanced instructor in. I specialise in working with hikers with both breathing and biomechanical issues.

My training programs:

Study Mentioned: Incresed net water loss by oral compared to nasal expiration in healthy subjects

You are the poster child of all that is healthy and very “unusual” and counterintuitive for most people . Light nasal breathing has helped me with every aspect of my life! Keep spreading the good word and thank you!

Excellent talk. It jives 100% with such health masters as Sten Eckberg, Firas Zahabi and Peter Attia.

Hey Chase! Great presentation 😊👌🏼 I've been following you for some time, mostly doing your follow-along, minimal training videos here on YouTube. They've been included in my morning routine - helping me be persistent with my knee rehab (had a partially ruptured meniscus two years ago) and I feel like they've had a great impact on my life in general. I'm obsessed with rock climbing/bouldering since a couple of years back, and I feel like I owe you a big thank you for keeping me fit enough to maintain and excell at my sport in my early 30's. Cheers from Sweden!

Great presentation - I had head and neck cancer treatment, part of that healing process is learning to breathe again (eat and talk) but radiation fibroids internally make for really difficult breathing when training, so this was invaluable - thank you. I don't have a question yet but I have downloaded the OA app and my Bolt is around 20 - I was thinking my issue was radiated fibroids but it might be gasping in air like I lost a lung - thanks again this was really good information and as a yoga person it makes perfect sense.

trying to breath 20% less and not making my nose hair move feels so stressful, also holding my breath when swimming D: I get those "pannicing for air to breath" moments very often, hope I learn sth after watching the whole video
