pro tip: skip oktoberfest and come during early summer. Basically every city has it's own little "volksfest" and it's much more authentic without all the overpriced crap and millions of tourists

I think Bavaria is heaven on earth and I would love to live there. In some Alp village or in the city of Straubing, my personal favourite! Gruss Gott to all great Bavarians!

I was stationed in Regensburg for a year (67/68) as an Army Medic. My goodness ! Such a great place! It was like being in dreamland. Once there, you can’t forget the place.

I had a great time in Bayern this summer, and I think you are spot on on the things to love. The positives far outweigh the negatives. I'm glad you mentioned the Bayern-Ticket, as it is a really excellent value that everybody should take advantage of (you can even take the train to Salzburg as well for no extra charge!).

The fact that US perceptions of Germany might have been influenced by post-WWII peacekeeping in the south of Germany is actually quite fascinating ! Never thought about it like that, Mark, but it does seem logical. :-) And thanks for another nice video.

I was last week in Munich and discovered one of the best beers that I have ever drunk. Augustiner Helles draft beer. Excellent beer.

Yes... I really want to go to Oberammergau and see the Passion play sometime. Don't forget that taking a 2 hour train ride from Munich will get people to Salzburg. We did this in January 2016 and talk about gorgeous! The snow all over and the view from the Hohensalzburg castle was incredible. Oh, and you've made me want to visit Bamberg!

I used to live in Augsburg during my days in the Army. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Bavaria. I had the advantage of being able to travel throughout Bavaria at my leisure so I was able to take my time visiting this beautiful region of Germany. The beauty of this area is beyond description.

This is so crazy. I'm living approximately 20 kilometers away from Bamberg and you're standing there taking about Germany :D But i really like your videos! It's very very interesting to experience another point of view of my homeland :)

Your videos are great! Especially about Germany. You're right about many nice places to visit in Bavaria, enough to see for at least one month of travel.
Medieval Rothenburg ob der Tauber is very popular for tourists that come by the busloads. Along the "Romantik Road" are other, less crowded towns, but also very interesting, such as Dinkelsbühl and Nördlingen. What's great about Bavaria are the Gasthauses with wooden beams, wooden furniture, and nicely decorated on the inside. Some have been serving guests for centuries.

Funny you mention Neuchwanstein - we went there last year, a lovely Friday afternoon in June (admittedly not July/August) and tried to sit down in a cafe for a coffee or beer just before 5 p.m. and were told politley but firmly that the cafe shut at 5 on the dot and was too late for a drink!

The trouble with Christmas time in the south of Germany and across in Austria is that so many things close early, or completely, for the holidays. It gets dark early and the Christmas decorations help, but there is so much less to do than the warmer months. Still had a great time when I returned after 35 years away a few years ago.

My Oma is from Nuremberg, and she always told me how kind the Bavarians are and their food, oh my I love the food. Yes, my Oma does cook great German food, mainly for her and myself but I love it. Love your videos.

I haven't traveled much but intend to change that, but according to pictures and videos it looks like the most beautiful place on the planet. A fairytale land. The stuff dreams are made of. I want to fly from Seattle to hamburg and rent a station wagon and drive to Munich.

1. Find a gasthaus in one of the villages outside Augsburg; the smaller the gasthaus, the better.. 2. Don't sit at the stammtisch table. 3. Eat and enjoy some real home cooked Bavarian food you will find. Many of the villages outside of Augsburg have been there for over 2 Thousand years. Augsburg was founded by Augustus Caesar.
